Job Description

This role provides support for the engineering department in the deployment of small to large capital projects. This individual may act in a supporting role for large projects and / or directly manage smaller projects. Projects will include facilities, production, and automation equipment.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Activities and duties may vary depending upon site specific needs. Essential functions may include, but are not limited to:

  • Edit, create, revise, and update existing CAD drawings or Bills of Material
  • Manage equipment documentation and drawing archives
  • Assist engineering department with project management in a manufacturing environment to assist with equipment modifications or new equipment installations. 
  • Provide cad support to the engineering team. 
  • Ability to reverse engineer manufacturing equipment or parts for purposes of making improvements to reliability. 
  • Occasionally, support engineers with supervising contractors, bidding work, bidding fabrications, bidding machine parts, requesting quotes, overseeing procurement of project related items.
  • Will work closely with engineers, maintenance, and other technical staff on assigned projects.
  • Design improvements to existing manufacturing equipment
  • Develop bid specifications and solicit bids for contracted work, fabrications,  and machined components. 
  • Follow Management of Change processes to implement projects or changes.
  • Assist maintenance as needed by providing technical support, procuring materials, and developing drawings for equipment parts.
  • Update and create plant layouts, P&ID drawings, detailed fabrication details, and machine details using AutoCad and or Inventor
  • Support design modifications on manufacturing equipment to continuously improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
  • Mentor maintenance and operations personnel while learning from senior engineers.
  • Provide reasonable support for projects and operations on a 24/7 basis.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associates Degree or higher in Automation/Drafting/Design/Engineering or equivalent job-related experience preferred
  • 5+ years experience with maintaining or designing manufacturing equipment parts or components and a minimum of 3+ years of proven cad and solid modeling experience. 
  • Able to read, understand, and create piping diagrams (P&ID) 
  • Proficient in 2D Autocad and Autodesk Inventor to create 2D and/or 3D designs for complex custom projects dealing with manufacturing equipment. 
  • Prepare dimensional drawings, installation drawings, and schematics
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and demonstrate a flexible approach to work assignments.
  • Working experience with MS Excel, Windows, Project, and Word preferred
  • Ability to read, understand, and create mechanical drawings
  • Understand and apply dimensional tolerancing and apply sound mechanical detailing practices
  • Good understanding of design for manufacturability (mechanical assembly)
  • Self-motivated with a continuous improvement focus.
  • Must be capable of working within a team and possess good communication skills.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Industrial manufacturing experience including material handling, robotics, structural, fluid systems, facilities equipment, etc...
