Job Description

In this role as an EHS Manager you will be responsible for three locations in the Netherlands: our Alphen a/d Rijn Plant, our Leiden Pilot Plant and our European HQ in Oegstgeest. At our plant in Alphen a/d Rijn, we have been producing self-adhesive products with about 70 colleagues for above 30 years. The sustainable improvement and optimization of our products is an important corporate goal of Avery Dennison and our plant in Alphen a/d Rijn. At our pilot plant in Leiden we’re testing new techniques and adhesives and simulating them for our plant in Europe. At our Head Office in Oegstgeest we have about 360 employees in a modern office facility plus a lab where we develop new adhesives. 

To strengthen our team, we are currently looking for an EHS Manager to be based primarily in Alphen a/d Rijn. In your role you will: 

  • Directly report to the Alphen Plant Manager and you will be responsible for compliance with both internal and external regulations. You will be executing on standards as well as for the design and development of the areas of occupational health and safety (accident, health and fire protection and health management), environmental protection, energy/waste management and plant security/building security.

  • You will be expected to implement the requirements and meet our global corporate sustainability goals as well as support/advise the management in the different locations & employees across all departments in EHS issues (i.e. introduction and commissioning of new process technologies, the design of a safe and low-stress work environment)

  • You will also be the contact person for the EHS corporate compliance audits and for external audits.

  • You will advise on all EHS matters, organize and also carry out internal audits, instructions and training.

  • Be the “prevention” expert (preventiemedewerker) - Risk Evaluation & Inventory, advising the Works Council, coordinate policy-making activities with regard to working conditions

Qualifications

To qualify for the role of the EHS Manager, you have successfully completed your technical or university studies, in the area of Environment, Health and Safety (e.g. “Middelbaar / Hogere Veiligheidskunde”) and you have a minimum of 3-5 years experience. If you have deep occupational and process safety expertise  (HAZOP, PHA, PSM) and several years of professional experience, it will be an advantage. Next to this we expect you to:

  • Know your way around as a trained safety specialist in handling dangerous goods and the emission control regulations.

  • You have good knowledge of the Dutch and European occupational safety regulations and ordinances. 

  • You know the chemical and environmental law as well as in the European chemicals regulation (REACH) 

  • You have project management experience on e.g. Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma methods 

  • Have you experienced integrated management systems ( ISO 14001  environment / ISO 9001 quality / OHSAS 18001 work / health / ISO 50001 energy) and well-founded knowledge in the areas of explosion protection, fire protection and standardization ( ISO 14000 )

  • You have excellent communication and presentation skills in Dutch & English and experience with Office as well as Google Suite.
