Job Description

Avery Dennison, Mill Hall is looking for a skilled technician to set up, maintain and operate machinery within an ever changing R&D environment.  We are looking for reliable, mechanically inclined, and safety minded individuals that are open to constantly evolving material coating and testing techniques. 

R&D Lab CoaterTechnician Responsibilities

  • Safety
    • Complete all site safety training
    • Participate in safety culture
    • Create and review existing standard operating procedures
    • Conduct risk based assessments of tasks
    • Follow all site safety imperatives
    • Introduce safety enhancements
    • Utilize task specific and general personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Constant improvement
    • Organize tools and machinery for efficient use
    • Implement safety improvements
    • Reduce scrap
    • Reduce cleaning and setup time
  • Effectively communicate with chemists, engineers, and project managers to develop trial plans
  • Obtain assistance from supervisor or higher level personnel if problems arise or normal instructions are insufficient
  • Effectively utilize organization and logistics to plan coating trials
  • Operate lab coater and peripheral equipment in a safe and efficient manner
    • Clean dies
    • Clean rolls
    • Clean oven/curing chamber
    • Die setup
    • Create high quality finished rolls
    • Package and ship rolls to end users
  • Maintain Lab Coater Integrity
    • Perform various preventative maintenance tasks
    • Design and install equipment upgrades
    • Alleviate machine mechanical failures when needed
  • Set up machines (calibration, cleaning etc.) to start a production cycle
  • Control and adjust machine settings 
  • Participate in material testing for other research groups
  • Lab Testing 
  • Communicate issues that might or have occured
  • Check output to spot any mistakes or flaws
  • Record all machine settings and outcomes of coating trials

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivelant
  • Technical degree preferred (preferably in material processing/ engineering technology) 
  • Can consistently pass drug screening
  • Mechanically inclined or skilled
  • Good scientific knowledge (Understands and uses basic scientific principles to incorporate new techniques when needed)
  • Understanding of computer systems, such as Google Docs, Sheets, Calendar, Drive, Slides
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Good verbal and written skills
  • Knowledgeable on how to make accurate mathematical computations
  • Skilled in interfacing effectively with cross-functional groups to define and execute overall requirements
  • Flexible schedule to cover unexpected workflow
    • An 8 hour shift is expected.  Hours are flexible between 7 am and 6 pm based on additional personnel present in laboratory
  • Self motivated with strong time management abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics and manuals
  • Effective teamwork and communication skills
