Job Description

We are currently hiring a Sr. Environmental, Safety, and Health (EHS) Specialist to develop, implement, and maintain facility EHS programs and facility specific procedures that ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company requirements/initiatives. (PSM, MSDS, OSHA 300, Form 101 etc.). In this role, you will report directly to the plant manager, and sit on a team of regional EHS leaders tasked with driving a culture of safety and accountability. You will be based at our Vancive Medical Technology plant located in Mentor, OH.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist in the development of EHS program components: operational procedures, work instructions, training materials, standards, etc.
  • Compile process safety information for each covered process and keep readily accessible to process employees and management as well as updated on an annual basis.
  • Track, trend, and communicate EHS performance, regulatory compliance, and improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a resource to the site leadership in regards to EHS matters and act as daily point of contact for all EHS issues. Assists line and staff management in understanding OSHA/EPA/DOT regulations and standards, including guidance on handling OSHA/EPA compliance, inspections, and citations.
  • Implement environmental, health, and safety education and training to support regulatory and business requirements.
  • Function as the contractor-plant representative to assure compliance of all PSM-related requirements from contractors.
  • Act as a resource and mentor to facility safety teams. Investigate all releases, injuries, and near misses.
  • The position may also be responsible for treating minor injuries, handling workers’ comp. cases, EHS training, recordkeeping, performing accident investigations, etc.
  • Reviews plant incident statistics and makes recommendations for correction of problem areas.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of plant machinery, equipment, and working conditions to ensure conformance to appropriate safety, sanitary, and regulatory standards.
  • Review proposed CERs and approve them from a safety/environmental perspective. Work closely with Engineering and Maintenance departments ensuring safety/environmental compliance of projects and equipment.
  • Maintain and implement industrial hygiene program. Maintain and calibrate industrial hygiene testing equipment. Coordinate and conduct periodic industrial hygiene monitoring of noise, air quality, and other IH levels.
  • Use Enterprise Lean Sigma (ELS) methodology to drive improvements in Environmental and Safety programs. Engineer solutions to occupational exposures. Drive continuous improvement and deliver strong results from behavioral based processes.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Chemical, Environmental Engineering/Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years of industrial safety and occupational EHS within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with OSHA PSM or similar structured safety management system.
  • Strong leadership, managerial, facilitation, training, and mentoring skills.
  • Detailed knowledge of regulatory requirements and EHS policies, procedures, and programs. Experience in life safety codes: EHS rules, HAZOP, training, principles of occupational safety and health, and industrial hygiene.
  • Strong project/problem resolution skills.
  • Good verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Understanding of applicable computer systems, such as Microsoft Office, Google Collaboration, databases, and function specific software.

Preferred:

  • Advanced professional EHS certification (CSP, CIH, CHMM, QEP, CEA, REM etc.).
