Job Description

We are looking for a Value Stream Manager (VSM) to join our Label & Graphics Material Group at our facility in Peachtree City, GA. You will be responsible for the success of the assigned 24/7 Value Stream operation and will manage and drive Enterprise Lean Sigma (ELS) processes to deliver overall business/financial results for the assigned Value Stream across all shifts. You will deliver on values as defined by the customer/business and lead efforts to achieve those results. You will also focus on the assigned value stream aligning activities and resources around value creation. This includes meeting targeted objectives in the areas of safety, quality, productivity/availability (UEE), MTBF and waste. You will be responsible for the leadership and mentoring of Team Member(s) and their performance in order to ensure that the work meets the Company’s defined requirements and standards in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and defined processes.

In addition, you will be responsible for individual team member performance including selection and training of employees, development and performance management, and adherence to Company policies and ELS environment.

What you will be doing:

You will interact with all departments including but not limited to Safety, Process Engineering, Quality, Logistics & Planning, Engineering & Maintenance, and Human Resources. In addition, this position leads High Performance Work Teams as defined.

Employee Development/People Management:

  • Oversee daily activities of team members including coaching, counseling and corrective action processes. Conduct regular GPS (performance) reviews with team members and incorporate meaningful feedback on their performance and personal development. Collaborate with technical, financial and materials support teams in resolving problems and developing improved manufacturing processes. Lead, facilitate and participate in ELS continuous improvement activities and Kaizen events.
  • Direct the work activities of the production team(s) and allocate resources in order to meet hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly production and quality targets.
  • Support new process and product development and implementation.

Operations Management:

  • Prepare plant information and reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
  • Drive Safety performance and awareness, as a value into the teams and individuals. Perform Safety audits and mentor team members for compliance with company policies and safe practices. Ensure that all associates perform their jobs in a safe manner complying with company safety standards and safety policies. Investigates and reports all accidents and near misses that occur.
  • Along with team and support team members, drive the identification of root causes and countermeasures for VS performance i.e. downtime and delay, quality defects, UEE, Losses, etc.
  • Mentor and direct team members in the resolution of issues, which adversely affect production, material usage and quality. Works with maintenance technicians to resolve problems contributing to downtime.
  • Maintain Good Housekeeping Standards.
  • Support the efforts of and effectively interface/integrate with the , Maintenance, Quality & Process Engineering Teams
  • Assure accuracy of shift production reports and other batch documentation.
  • Communicate downtime issues to plant management, maintenance, shift management and oncoming shift management.

ELS Management:

  • Calibrate with in-house and corporate scheduling to best utilize equipment, manning, and time to ensure changeovers are done on time with the requested quantity.
  • Coordinate and communicate line changeovers with line staff and supporting groups (e.g. compounding, warehouse, maintenance, etc.).
  • Take corrective actions, including recommending and administering disciplinary actions in order to resolve individual team member performance issues which do not conform to established Standard Operating Procedures, policies, and practices.
  • Ensure that all team members are trained to perform the functions to which they are assigned. Ensure that all team members know how to effectively perform all necessary product assembly, quality, safety, materials control, and production functions, including accurate preparation of daily reports.
  • Establishe a mutually supportive and effective interface with other production teams, their leaders, and production support services.
  • Responsible for assisting in the continuous improvement process by developing and implementing written improvement plans to achieve production, quality, uptime, control and personnel management goals.
  • Conduct team meetings with intent to provide feedback, communicate change, and identify action items utilized in developing continuous improvement plans.
  • Understand customer requirements and determine how to deploy and manage people, equipment, and processes to meet those requirements and support the plant objectives.
  • Support the select core implementation team members and introduce them to: value stream management process, 5S, visual controls, VSM, Kanban, Daily MDI, etc.
  • Track Value Stream Continuous Improvement metrics.

Qualifications

What you will need to bring to the team:

Experience required:

  • BS Degree required, technical discipline, Management, or Engineering preferred
  • 3-5 years experience working in a supervisory or leadership capacity in a lean, high speed manufacturing environment preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities
  • Working knowledge of Six Sigma highly preferred.

Skills/abilities:

  • Be flexible in work hours. Will be on-call for troubleshooting and support for 24/7 manufacturing operation
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and lead in a high performance work team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Good math skills with the ability to utilize SPC and other statistical tools.
  • Willing to work overtime and varied shift assignments as required.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to organize, interpret, and present data.
  • Ability to use the Value Stream Map to establish the baseline process and measure progress.
