Job Description

The Quality Manager will play a proactive role in the development and maintenance of the Business Management Systems and Quality Management Systems. In this role, you will be responsible for planning and directing the activities of the Quality Team and key initiatives for the Fitchburg, MA facility. This role often calls for the derivation and application of new unusual approaches. You will partner with the technical teams to formulate, recommend and direct research and development programs to meet organization needs for the quality improvement and cost reduction of both existing and new products and processes. You will facilitate the transfer of knowledge and technologies throughout various areas of the organization, evaluate new products, review and analyze technical literature and stay current on related issues and technical data.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Direct management of ISO9001:2015 and IATF1694 standards.
  • Lead, coach and develop quality team members to achieve peak performance.
  • Utilize Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing to restructure internal processes, rework and redevelop test procedures and lead projects focusing on improvement of overall product and process quality.
  • Participate as a key member of cross-functional teams and product development meetings to rank ideas, research proposed product attributes, review necessary standards, and design and devise test methods and procedures.
  • Research, investigate and craft improved methods of inspecting and qualifying incoming mechanical parts and raw materials and develop related training programs.
  • Manage and lead the resolution of customer complaints and continuously improve processes to address customer issues.
  • Lead the Internal Auditing requirements including scheduling, conducting audits and evaluating competency and training of internal auditing team.
  • Support Sales, Engineering, and Marketing with product quality issues and support Materials Management department for supplier evaluations and ratings.
  • Manage corrective and preventive action processes.
  • Compile and report out on key quality metrics as directed by General Manager, compile customer satisfaction reports and product specification reviews.
  • Conduct Management Review meetings.

Qualifications

Required:

  • B.S. degree in Engineering or Management required.
  • 10+ years in high volume manufacturing, ideally focused on automotive operations environments.
  • Demonstrated experience running policies, procedures, process, programs, and practices under ISO 9001, ISO14001, and IATF16949 (or a similar quality systems) to ensure continuous improvement, conformance and effectiveness of Quality System.
  • Statistical analysis and analytical skills (Six Sigma) are required.
  • Demonstrated experience with effective Corrective and Preventive Action processes to ensure process improvement and auditing results.
  • Able to quickly acclimate to complex organization: build and develop functional relationships, gain knowledge of products, develop analytical and reporting skills, learn multiple computer-based quality, inventory, and internet/ intranet applications.
  • Deep understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Self-motivated and self directed with the ability to lead by example. Expected to be hands on and visible on the Production floor.
  • Strong verbal and written communicator combined with solid organizational and strategic planning skills.
  • Occasional domestic and foreign travel required.

Preferred:

  • Green Belt or Black Belt certification preferred.
  • ASQ certification a plus, as is complete familiarity with IATF16949, ISO14001 and/or ISO9001:2015 standards.
