Job Description

By servicing the technical needs of converters/printers and their customers, as well as internal Avery Dennison customers, the Regional Technical Manager improves organizational capability and helps them reach their business goals. By doing this, we satisfy our customers and help Avery Dennison achieve its growth and profit targets.

The Regional Technical Manager (RTM) is responsible for on-site field technical support, including on-press problem solving, labeling and end-user problem solving, pre- and post-complaint investigation and root cause analysis, customer and field sales training, and proactive support of new product development and product trials at converters and end-users.

Problem-Solving

  • Provide reactive on site or virtual printing, converting and applicator problem solving and troubleshooting for customers and end-users.
  • Provide technical consultation to Sales, Operations, Technical Leaders, Application Consultants and Quality Team to answer questions and build technical capability and expertise of the organization.resolve customer and end-user complaints and claims.
  • Complete timely internal and external trip reports to maintain a record of problem resolution activity, the resulting action plan and customer insights (VoC). Internal trip reports are intended to ensure awareness and alignment with key internal partners. External trip reports are intended to summarize the activity and outcome with the customer and/or end-user.
  • Identify and surface quality related trends to internal stakeholders (e.g. Quality, Sales, Marketing, Operations, etc.).

Product Business Development

  • Provide proactive and reactive support to R&D and Marketing for new product development projects (e.g. cost out, business continuity or growth) by providing technical consultation and field trials support.
  • Provide enthusiastic technical consultation to Technical Leaders on new engineered solutions to identify any concerns related to the product design and/or commercialization at converters and/or end-users. Weekly sales calls will be used for reviewing / initiating discussion.
  • Provide technical support to converters and end-users on new product development. Aid in the identification of factors critical to success.

Training Organization Capability

  • Provide technical consultation to sales, Technical Leaders, Quality team, Operations team, to answer questions and build technical capability and expertise of the organization.
  • Prepare materials and/or conduct training for internal team on converting, printing, and end-user applications and processing.
  • Prepare field Technical Bulletins as needed.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with industry vendors (e.g. inks, press and die-cutting suppliers), to build and maintain knowledge base and expertise.
  • Continually identify and participate in training and development in related field.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Self-motivation and self-management.
  • Navigate and communicate effectively through large matrix organization.

  • Strong technical knowledge of the pressure sensitive label converting processes and end-user dispensers – On Press Problem Solving, Printing troubleshooting, Applicator troubleshooting, and material capabilities.

  • In depth knowledge of pressure sensitive laminate manufacturing processes along with product performance knowledge.

  • Good analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Good project management skills.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Positive ACT Behavior role model, and collaborative team player with the other RTMs.

  • Relationship building with customers - good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to travel up to 80% of the time, and at a moment’s notice.

  • Minimum of 5 Years related technical experience.

  • HS Degree or equivalent required.

Preferred:
  • Bachelors or other advanced degree preferred.  
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification preferred.
