Job Description

Avery Dennison is seeking an individual to provide subject matter expertise on environmental sustainability.  This role will be a key contributor to the strategic direction and execution of the Company’s sustainability metrics. Work globally and cross-functionally to coordinate, align and proactively implement environmental sustainability initiatives encompassing the full value chain of the company’s products and services. Interface with key external stakeholders/partners on the company’s environmental sustainability initiatives to support strategic direction.

The candidate ss knowledgeable and passionate about sustainability issues and has an infectious drive and enthusiasm to inspire and educate others. Strong individual contributor, effective communicator and skilled project manager with demonstrated global experience and a relentless capacity to work across functions and organizational bounds to advance Avery Dennison’s capabilities and reputation regarding sustainability.


WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

The primary role and responsibility of this role will be


  • Global project management for 2025 Sustainability objectives.  Projects aligned with achieving the goals for near-term, annual commitments and the long-term 2025 commitments.


  • Manage the Supplier Sustainability Program:  EcoVadis measurement system, Restricted Substances Program, Responsible Sourcing Policy, and the measurement and definition of our 2025 Sustainability goals for Paper, Films and Chemicals.  Support key processes in sourcing such as fiber validation, paper certifications, supplier measurement and others as necessary.


  • Project Management for the development and tracking of our Sustainable Products & Solutions through the ClearIntent portfolio.


  • Project Management for global activity related to the recycling of External Waste, including managing the pipeline through the regional Sustainability Leaders, marketing communications projects, audit programs and measurement of progress.


  • Provide sustainability subject matter expertise and guidance to Avery Dennison’s Materials Group to proactively define and leverage value chain opportunities, design measurement/monitoring tools, assess technology and aid in decision making.            


  • Support education program on sustainability. Develop and deliver training to various employee and management groups across regions on big-picture environmental awareness, environmental development guidelines, customer and vendor environmental scorecards, environmental metrics and sustainability initiatives.       

       

  • Assist in identifying and engaging key external stakeholders/partners on Material Group’s environmental sustainability initiatives to support strategic direction.


  • Be willing and able to travel: 25% of the time.



Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • BS degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Industrial Ecology, Engineering or a related field. Concentration in sustainability a plus.


SKILLS:

  • 1-3 years experience in environmental sustainability field strongly preferred.

  • Good communications skills (written, oral and presentation).

  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical information to be comprehended by non-technical audiences.

  • Strong cross-organizational management skills and experience leading and contributing to projects involving global teams.

  • Experience and comfort working with in a global, matrix management structure

  • Working knowledge of external landscape and associated dynamics that influence emerging market requirements across the globe preferred

  • Materials science experience desirable

  • Strong systems thinking and decision making skills preferred

  • Demonstrated Project Management skills

  • Propensity for identifying issues proactively, making decisions with incomplete information, and acting expediently.

  • Comfort and confidence in interacting with / presenting to all levels in an organization
