What we are looking for

Avery Dennison’s North America Technology Leadership Development Program (TLDP) has a single business focus to build talent for our rapidly growing organization. With a concentrated blend of experiential on-the-job learning, classroom and virtual training, the TLDP serves as the talent pipeline for leadership roles throughout the organization.

We are looking for true and inquisitive innovator with a strong technical background to collaborate with our award-winning Research and Development team. As a TLDP Associate, you will gain real-world experience in our R&D labs that will allow you to be a significant contributor to the company. In addition, with our formalized training program, you will be able to craft and grow your own leadership competencies. TLDP Associates receive in-depth exposure by rotating through different assignments over the course of 30 months. Development work may be performed at state-of-the-art pilot and production facilities located in Mentor, OH area as well as with suppliers, customers and end-users globally. We are looking for individuals who would be open to relocating during the duration and upon graduation of the program.

The TLDP Associate will typically rotate through the following areas of research focused on product development:

  • Adhesives

  • Coatings

  • Pressure-sensitive labels

  • Reflective materials

  • Polymer weatherability and durability

What you will be doing

The primary role and responsibility of this LDP position will be:

  • Full-Cycle Product development: Develop next-generation products by designing experiments for internal and external development trials on lab scale equipment. In addition, Collaborate with patent attorneys to file invention disclosures, conduct patent analysis, and evaluate patentability and freedom to practice of new concepts.

  • Testing protocols: Execute testing protocols to measure product performance against customer requirements in conjunction with Avery testing facilities

  • Analyzing and predicting trends: Track competitive and industry intelligence to identify potential threats and identify key trends in relevant product and process technologies.

  • Cross functional teamwork: Coordinate with businesses and across R&D teams to translate platform technologies into next-generation products.

  • Experimental Design: Use experimental design techniques and statistical methods to plan and perform testing and process trials on laboratory, pilot and production-scale equipment.

Qualifications

What you will need to bring to the program

Avery Dennison has a long history of being a market leader. Your history is important to us. It should include the following:

Education
  • Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Polymer Engineering or equivalent

  • Ph.D. is preferred

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher

Skills
  • Leadership experience via student organizations, athletics, intramural sports, volunteerism or similar activities

  • Previous experience in industrial R&D environment preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

Travel
  • Flexibility and willingness to relocate during and after graduating from program

  • Ability to travel up to 25 percent of the time (up to 1-2 weeks per month)
