Offering resident centered care with a specialized focus on our award winning Avenir Alzheimer’s program. Designed to encourage interaction and independence while concentrating on meeting resident’s unique needs by promoting their individuality and enhancing their health and spiritual well being.

This community will be the first stand alone memory care residence available to seniors living with dementia on Vancouver Island. Residents will benefit from Nanaimo Memory Care’s neighbourhood design concept and secure home-like environment. Alzheimer’s trained licensed professional staff on site 24 hours a day conduct meaningful engagements personalized to each residents preferences. Our residents will enjoy elegantly furnished private and semi private suites with a personal bathroom.

Job Description

Position Summary:

Responsible for performing laundry functions in order to maintain a clean and comfortable
Environment to meet the needs of residents.

Job Specific Details:

Perform a variety of general laundry tasks and duties to provide quality laundry services.

Picks up soiled clothing and lined from each wing throughout the shift and neighbourhoods.

Prepares articles for washing by unbuttoning, running out pockets and unrolling sleeves.

Sorts soiled laundry into appropriate loads, and does not mix with our resident’s garments.

Follows all standard washing procedures, reads tags and direction to assure garments are being laundered per garment washing care.

Follows standards washing procedures to add soap solution and other chemicals to wash

Wash contaminated liens separately from all linens.

Dry’s patient clothing in dryer.

All dry clean only garments will will be bagged in a laundry bag (plastic garment bag), Responsible party

Will be notified by supervisor to contact POA and return item.

Distributes Clean laundry to appropriate reside.

Garments are to marked inside clothing, any garments are need of repair, notify supervisor to contact 

POA/responsible party to pick up and it is the family/responsible party to repair garment.

Wear gloves and apron to protect self from solid linen

Wash hands in between solid and clean laundry.

Never wear soiled gloves while working in neighbourhood.

Is responsible to maintain equipment used in performing duties, cleans washer and dryers after each shift. Cleans dryer lint filters after each use.

Reports any mechanical issues to the Maintenance Director, Executive Director or Designee for immediate repairs, Uses protective eye wear when using liquids or chemicals.

Performs any miscellaneous work assignments as may be required.

Qualifications

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred: Ability to read and understand directions.

Experience:

Preferred by not required.

Physical Demands:

50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting, moving, carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

Exerting considerable force frequently, and/or intermediate force constantly to move objects.

Reaching, walking, handling, talking, hearing, visual near acuity, bending and stooping.

Working Conditions:

Inside and Outside on occasion with exposure to noise and vibrations, hear temperature, wet and humid conditions.

Visual acuity requirements, including color, depth perception and field of visions:

Resident Care/Assessment: Must be intact including color, depth perception and field of vision.

Environmental factors:

The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
The worker is subject to hazards including some hazardous waste.
The worker is subject to hazards and other environmental conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin:
Fumes, odors dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.
