Offering resident centered care with a specialized focus on our award winning Avenir Alzheimer’s program. Designed to encourage interaction and independence while concentrating on meeting resident’s unique needs by promoting their individuality and enhancing their health and spiritual well being.

This community will be the first stand alone memory care residence available to seniors living with dementia on Vancouver Island. Residents will benefit from Nanaimo Memory Care’s neighbourhood design concept and secure home-like environment. Alzheimer’s trained licensed professional staff on site 24 hours a day conduct meaningful engagements personalized to each residents preferences. Our residents will enjoy elegantly furnished private and semi private suites with a personal bathroom.

Job Description

Position Summary:

Responsible for performing housekeeping and laundry functions in order to maintain an attractive, clean, and comfortable environment to meet the needs of the residents.

Essential Job Functions:

Perform weekly cleaning functions as directed by supervisor
Remove soiled bed and bath linens and replace with fresh linens (where applicable)
Clean phones, bathrooms and kitchen areas.
Clean outside of refrigerator, dusts furniture and lamps.
Check for cobwebs and removes.
Clean woodwork as needed.
Vacuum carpets and sweep as needed.
Perform 30-60 day cleaning (where applicable).
Defrost refrigerator.
Vacuum under beds.
Turn mattresses (where applicable).
Biannually wash windows inside and out.
Vacuum and dust in hallways.
Clean fingerprints as needed.
Clean common areas as needed.
Clean resident rooms, bath rooms as scheduled.
Complete maintenance slips and submits.
Mop stairways as required (where applicable)
Clean trash area.
Polish and clean trash/linen chutes (where applicable)
Launder all linens (where applicable).
Accomplish all work in the order of priority set by supervisor.
Maintain all equipment and supplies in proper order.

Qualifications

Education Required:

High School diploma preferred or the equivalent education, training and experience.

Years of Experience:

3 - 6 months experience in housekeeping or janitorial position.

Knowledge/Skills:

Requires knowledge of cleaning solvents and materials and ability to clean apartments/rooms based on established standard.

Special Requirements (if applicable):

Ability to follow cleaning procedures and instructions.
Doctor’s statement verifying free from communicable disease

Sits 1 hour per day; stands and walks 7 hours per day (combined) = 8 hour day.

Physical requirements of the job:

Light work – exerts up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently and/or a negligible of force constantly to move objects.

Visual acuity requirements, including color, depth perception and field of visions:

This is a minimum standard based on the criteria of accuracy and neatness of work for janitors, sweepers, etc.

Environmental factors:

The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
The worker is subject to hazards.
The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
