Job Description
Summary of Position
The Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach assists the Head Coach with the organization and administration of all aspects of the men’s basketball program, including coaching and training, student-athlete retention, advising, mentoring and recruiting prospective student-athletes.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide instruction and development in basketball-specific skills, team concepts, physical conditioning, physical health and safety in both individual and team settings.
- Identify and recruit talented, academically qualified prospective student-athletes aligned with the mission, values, and recruiting plan of the University.
- Support the holistic development of student-athletes through mentorship in personal growth, academic success, and life skills.
- Assist with planning and implementing practices and competitions, creating basketball specific game plans, conducting film analysis, and facilitating team meetings.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with monitoring and supporting academic progress of student-athletes/teams to exceed athletic department standards.
- Assist with maintaining acceptable student-athlete retention rates to the team and/or institution.
- Assist with budget management, fundraising, travel planning and program organization.
- Assist with Alumni/parent communication and involvement, including organizing events as appropriate.
- Assist with organizing and participating in team community-service event(s).
- Assist with team camps and clinics.
- Thirty percent (30%) of the position will include an assigned duty from the Athletic Director related to maintaining the Athletics department, including athletic equipment, concessions, game management, student-athlete academic support and administrative duties.
- All other duties as apparent or assigned by supervisor(s).
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Work is performed primarily in an indoor gymnasium and athletic facilities, with regular exposure to high noise levels during practices and competitions.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and assist with demonstrations, practices, recruiting activities, and team operations.
- Evening and weekend work required.
- Frequent local travel and occasional national travel.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- At least three (3) years of experience playing and/or coaching basketball.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree.
- Experience recruiting student-athletes.

Additional Information
Compensation & Benefits at Augsburg
- The compensation range is $42,000 - $49,000 annually, DOQ.
