Job Description
Summary of Position
Responsible for operating, maintaining, and managing Augsburg Athletic Facilities for intercollegiate contests and special events. Maintenance and monitoring of ice rink and ice arena mechanical equipment. Duties include a variety of general maintenance and general custodial tasks.
Primary Responsibilities
- Consistently maintain the highest quality ice surface possible with the equipment provided.
- Maintain proper working condition of and required records for mechanical equipment, including ice resurfacing equipment, air handling systems, de-humidification systems, and refrigeration equipment.
- Ensure appropriate facility set-up, breakdown and game management for intercollegiate contests and special events held in Augsburg Athletic Facilities; includes some cash responsibility.
- Manage Athletic Facilities operations on evenings/weekends; maintain an optimum level of cleanliness throughout the facility, including arena seating, locker rooms, and other portions of the building.
- Enforce arena rules and polices, respond to first aid needs, notify and support campus security, as needed, to enforce campus regulations and provide emergency response.
- Communicate with Facilities Manager regarding concerns with safety, liability, and maintenance needs.
- Other duties as apparent or assigned by supervisor(s).
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Typical environment is an athletic facility.
- Exposure to temperature extremes: going from ice arena to gym.
- Exposure to noise level extremes: compressor room, ice rink.
- Exposure to lighting extremes: 1000-watt lights.
- Exposure to dampness, cold, odor.
- Long or irregular hours: 7-day operation, year-round.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- High school education or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in ice arena operations.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPR and first aid certifications.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of the pertinent ice arena equipment operations and maintenance, including the ability to operate and maintain ice resurfacing equipment.
- Understanding of air quality standards and requirements.
- Ability to handle public inquiries and questions in a professional manner.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse work environment.
