Public Safety is an agency comprised of professional security officers and communication dispatchers. DPS offers an array of services including first response to emergency and non-emergency calls, report taking, regular campus patrols, an escort service, parking enforcement and services, keys/fob access controls, and Communications Center. We serve the Augsburg community and its guests 24-hours a day, and are seeking candidates for the Student Overnight Patrols position. Training will be provided.

Pay Rate: $19.00/hour

Requirements: Must be enrolled or in the process of enrolling in an undergraduate or graduate program at Augsburg University.

Job Description

Public Safety is responsible for fostering and maintaining a safe learning and working environment for the Augsburg University Community.  This environment is attained through proactive patrol of the campus buildings and ground and through positive interactions with the community we serve.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • This position will have regularly scheduled shifts not to exceed 20 hours of scheduled shifts per week (Sunday – Saturday)

  • Creating and maintaining a safe learning and working environment for members of the Augsburg University Community.

  • Identify after hours facilities issues and assist in the coordination of emergency maintenance response.

  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency requests for assistance.  Activate and coordinate Police, Fire, and EMS response as needed.

  • Monitor campus activities and facilities through proactive patrol and observation.

  • Provide required services to the Augsburg University Community.  These services include walking or driving escorts, locking and unlocking of campus buildings according to class schedules and events, and providing information and assistance to the community as needed.

  • Preparation of required incident reports completely and accurately for all security and safety related activities.

  • Regular monitoring and use of critical infrastructure systems: CCTV systems, fire alarm panels, automation systems, alarms, access card systems, and parking enforcement systems. 

Additional Examples of work performed:

  • Communicate and enforce campus policies and procedures as needed.

  • Assist with and coordinate response efforts with the Department of Residence Life and Facilities Management.

  • All other duties as apparent or assigned by supervisor(s). 

Qualifications

  • Must be a current Augsburg traditional day student, Junior or Senior (based on the amount of earned credits)

  • Valid Driver’s License.

  • 1 year of security or customer service experience preferred

  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse work environment.

  • Ability to be attentive to details, be accurate, be precise.

  • Ability to work in a team environment; and work independently with little or no supervision.

  • Ability to reason/analyze; maintain confidentiality; and demonstrate patience, understanding.

  • Ability to show initiative; multi-task and organize workflow; manage one or more projects simultaneously; and handle frequent interruptions.

WORK Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Typical work environment is continually changing, and will include working in both indoor spaces and outdoors for long periods of time in varying weather conditions.

  • Sitting, standing, or walking for long periods of time.

  • Ability to use a computer and other office equipment.

  • Ability to drive a motor vehicle in order to patrol campus grounds and provide escorts.

  • Ability to communicate in person and over the phone.
