Public Safety is an agency comprised of professional security officers and communication dispatchers. DPS offers an array of services including first response to emergency and non-emergency calls, report taking, regular campus patrols, an escort service, parking enforcement and services, keys/fob access controls, and Communications Center. We serve the Augsburg community and its guests 24-hours a day, and are seeking candidates for the Student Overnight Patrols position. Training will be provided.

Pay Rate: $15.57 per hour

Job Description

Public Safety is seeking to hire student employees to work during the hours of midnight to 6:00 am throughout the weeks of summer. Duties for this position include the following:

  • Assist Residence Life staff as requested in responding to incidents in the residence halls
  • Provide building access to emergency services as needed (Police, Fire, EMS)
  • Grant access to residential spaces upon request and confirmation of residency
  • Walkthrough academic and administrative buildings
  • Observe and report to dispatch any suspicious activity, and coordinate with DPS dispatch on emergency services response (Police, Fire, EMS)
  • Patrol campus property and report concerns such as safety issues, facilities problems, or suspicious behavior

Qualifications

Candidate Requirements:

  • Have a valid Minnesota driver’s license
  • Have a clear criminal history background check upon hire
  • Have a clean student conduct record upon hire and maintain that throughout employment
  • Have work-study as part of financial aid award if working during school year
  • Must be enrolled at Augsburg University

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possess a high level of critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Flexible schedule (overnights and weekends) and availability for emergency shift coverage
  • A natural team-player
  • High level of interpersonal communication skills
