The Department of Communication Studies, Film, and New Media includes 6 full-time faculty members.  The department is located in the Foss Lobeck Miles Center. We have two studios, an ADR booth, screening room, 16mm edit lab, computer lab, and  a variety of media equipment to support or programs.  Classes throughout the department incorporate active learning and student activities or projects. Faculty get to know students well with normally no more than 25 students per class, with 16 being the maximum in production-based courses.  Students from majors across campus take introductory film courses as part of their major or to fulfill the university's general education requirements. Our courses are designed to engage a diverse student audience through meaningful examples and applications, make use of modern technology, and provide ample support for student success.

Job Description

The Department of Art & Design invites applications for current and future adjunct positions teaching 1-2 classes a semester in the Graphic Design program. Areas of focus include an introduction to graphic design, typography, design systems, interactive design, and design practice. 

The Art & Design Department offers 4 programs: Graphic Design, Studio Arts, Art History, and Art Education. The Department values the intersection of Art & Design and encourages students to think interdisciplinary. Intercultural competency and a commitment to inclusive practice and authentic representation are critical to the approach to visual art and design education at Augsburg. Candidates are encouraged to highlight skills and experiences that demonstrate these abilities and experiences.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Teaching undergraduate lower division, non-major courses as well as courses in the major.
  • Using the learning management system (Moodle) for grading and supplemental course content.
  • Engaging student inquiries and holding regular office hours.  

Course syllabus with learning outcomes, textbook, and shared office space are provided.

 

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Bachelors degree and significant professional experience; or Ph D or MFA in Design, Visual Arts or related field.
    • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience required.  Professional activity may be corporate, artistic and/or scholarly.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Ph D or MFA in Visual Arts, Design or related field.
    • Teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
