Job Description

Auburn-Washburn USD 437 is currently hiring a full-time substitute for Pauline Central Primary School for the Spring 2019 semester. This position would work as a substitute teacher in the building for various teaching positions and assignments and paid at the long-term substitute rate of $125 per day and is health-benefits eligible.
This position would work on school days during the remainder of the 2018-19 school year (Jan. 3rd - May 23rd), with the opportunity to interview for full-time teaching positions in the district for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year.
This could be an ideal opportunity for December 2018 graduates or others seeking a teaching position in the school district.  Current Kansas substitute or teaching license is required.

 

Job Title:  Substitute Teacher                                                                       

Reports To:  Building Principal or Designee

 

Summary

Works under the direction of principals or their designees.  Administers the classroom in accordance with Board of Education policies and uses instructional skills to promote the educational development of each student.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·  Reports to the building principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school building

·  Reviews with the principal, department head, or team leader all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day

·  Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned

·  Teaches the lesson outlined and described in the lesson plans as prepared by the absent teacher

·  Consults as appropriate, with the building principal, department head, or team leader before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the lesson plans

·  Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and during lunch, recess periods, or assigned periods

·  Reports in writing, on the day’s activities at the conclusion of each teaching day

·  Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates

·  Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day

·  Supports the District’s educational mission for all students and implements all board regulations and policies in a fair and equitable manner

·  Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as the Superintendent or designee may assign

Qualifications

Qualification Requirements

Certificates/Licenses/Endorsements/Registrations

Valid Kansas teaching license, substitute teaching, or emergency substitute teaching license

Education and/or Experience

Bachelors degree preferred

Requirements as stipulated by KSDE for required license

Previous teaching experience preferred

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general educational reports, professional journals, technical procedures, and regulations.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups and individuals.  Ability to write clearly; keep detailed records; effectively produce reports, letters, and memoranda; and to carry out complex tasks.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and to deal with a variety of variables.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
