Job Description
The Accounting Manager supports the accounting operations of both The Knox hotel and its residential associations. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Finance, this leader oversees daily accounting activity, supports accurate financial reporting and strong controls, and partners with departments across the property. The role requires a willingness to learn new processes and provide coverage across accounting functions as business needs change.
- Maintain accurate accounting and separate financial records for the hotel and residential associations, including general ledger activity, reconciliations, journal entries, and timely resolution of discrepancies.
- Coordinate month-end and year-end close for the hotel and residential associations, preparing accurate schedules and supporting timely financial reporting.
- Review hotel revenue, cash handling, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and expenses for accuracy and proper classification.
- Support HOA accounting, including assessments, owner receivables, cash receipts, payables, reserves, and financial reporting, in coordination with the residential team.
- Review transactions between the hotel and residential associations to ensure expenses and reimbursements are recorded to the appropriate entity and supported by documentation.
- Learn and provide coverage across revenue, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and HOA accounting as priorities and staffing needs change.
- Maintain effective internal controls, safeguard assets, and support internal and external audits.
- Analyze financial results and budget variances, sharing clear insights with Finance and operational leaders.
- Supervise, coach, and develop accounting team members; establish priorities and review work for quality and timeliness.
- Partner with hotel and residential departments on inventory, purchasing, cost controls, and consistent financial procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience considered.
- At least four years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in hotel or hospitality finance, with supervisory or team leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial statements, reconciliations, and internal controls.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets and accounting systems; strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage deadlines and build effective relationships across hotel and residential operations.
- Ability and willingness to learn unfamiliar accounting processes, move between hotel and HOA responsibilities, and maintain accuracy while managing competing deadlines.
