Astroscale U.S. Inc. is currently seeking a Legal and Regulatory Affairs Counsel to join our team in our Washington, DC location. In this role you will support the legal and regulatory affairs for Astroscale U.S., reporting to the SVP Policy & General Counsel.
Job Description
- Be a subject matter expert on regulations and procedures governing commercial space companies. Provide comprehensive legal counsel and support on a wide range of corporate matters, including:
- Contracts (USG, commercial, licensing, vendor, employment, international)
- Corporate governance (USG regulations, cybersecurity, FOCI mitigation, etc.)
- Regulatory compliance (with a focus on regulations applicable to commercial space operators)
- Intellectual property
- Review and draft a broad range of contracts, regulatory filings and other legal documents, including proposals, agreements with third-party partners, investors and other external parties (auditors, regulators, outside counsel, etc.).
- Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to ensure adherence to all applicable laws and regulations.
- Manage external legal counsel and third-party providers to ensure efficient and cost-effective legal support.
- Stay up to date on evolving legal developments within the space industry and proactively inform stakeholders.
- Keep senior leadership informed of legal and regulatory changes that impact the company, providing recommendations to proactively address potential risks.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and compliance across the company.
- Assist with establishing scalable processes, training, and a robust program focused on identifying, addressing, and monitoring critical compliance risks facing the company.
- Foster a culture of integrity and legal compliance throughout the organization.
Qualifications
- State bar member in good standing in any jurisdiction.
- 8+ years of combined broad legal experience with a corporation, law firm, and/or a government entity, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in the space industry.
- Demonstrated experience in drafting of U.S. Government contracts, successfully negotiating, and implementing contract requirements.
- Willingness to learn new skills and substantive legal areas to support multiple roles within Astroscale U.S.
- Prior experience handling regulatory matters and advising clients within a matrixed, company-wide compliance program.
- Experience identifying and developing compliance procedures to implement regulatory requirements.
- Ability to work efficiently and independently and communicate clearly and effectively in English (both verbally and in writing).
- Ability to earn trust, maintain productive work relationships, contribute to a culture of inclusion, work collaboratively across the company, and provide legal advice directly to clients of every level.
- Familiarity with export control regulations, including International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
- Ability to obtain a security clearance preferred.
Additional Information
Salary range: $150,000 – $170,000. The salary range represents the low and high end of the Astroscale U.S. Inc. salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, knowledge, and ability as applicable to the role.
