Job Description

What this Job Entails: 

The Optical Field Technician II will build, test, and improve upon a camera system with optic, photonic and laser technologies.  The role will interact with manufacturing and design to establish and improve a reliable and robust manufacturing process with attention to detail, by executing design experiments, and collaborating on test and build equipment.  

 

Scope: 

  • Applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues

  • Works on problems of moderate scope

  • Receives general instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new projects

 

Your Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Work with team to build, test, and validate optical systems

  • Work with cross-disciplinary teams including electrical, mechanical, software, and reliability engineering, as well as external vendors

  • Categorize and help debug issues found in the field

  • Collaborate on  release strategy for hardware upgrades

  • Support product development through design refinements for reliability, ease of assembly and test, delivery timeline, and cost effectiveness

  • Analyze/interpret data and document technical findings 

  • Perform tolerance analysis of systems and documentation of results

  • Perform Laboratory testing of optical components and systems with documentation of results

  • Perform root cause analysis of manufacturing errors with documentation of analysis, recommendations for improvement  

  • Responsible for tracking build rate and build timing

  • Responsible for tracking material usage and periodic inventory checks.

 

Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • 2 to 5 years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience 

  • Builds productive internal and external working relationships

  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action

  • Familiarity with building and testing optical systems

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Attention to detail and ability to follow documented procedures.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Familiarity with CAD software 

  • Understanding of design for manufacturing/assembly 

 

Physical Demand & Work Environment:

  • Must have the ability to perform office-related tasks which may include prolonged sitting or standing

  • Must have the ability to move from place to place within an office environment

  • Must be able to use a computer

  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively 

  • Some positions may require occasional repetitive motion or movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
