Job Description

The Restaurant Caretaker ensures all areas of the restaurant, inside and out, are clean, sanitary, safe, and in good working condition, and picks up shifts operating the snowcat to deliver food, beverage, and other supplies to on-mountain restaurants. Housing is provided on site. This position reports to the General Manager – Market Restaurants.

Essential Job Functions / Key Job Responsibilities

  • Complete physical and mechanical walk-through of building and notify arriving manager of any noticeable or outstanding problems 
  • Winter specific duties include snow removal from decks and walkways to ensure safe and easy access for guests and staff, icicle removal from roof line and apply snowmelt where appropriate 
  • Summer specific duties to include basic landscaping tasks, trash removal around the building, cleaning windows and floors, and replacing light bulbs and carpet as needed 
  • Help the facilities or engineering team as needed with maintenance projects 
  • Set ski or bike racks in proper location at beginning and end of day 
  • Secure, open and close building 
  • Vacuum all carpeted areas, sweep and mop back of house areas as directed 
  • Load, drive, and maintain the supply cat to deliver food, beverage, and other required items to restaurants via snowcat, following designated routes and cross-referencing delivery invoices against product received  
  • Complete daily pre-start-up Snowcat checklist, including radio operation, ensure the Snowcat is properly fueled with fluid levels maintained, and promptly notify management of any mechanical or safety issues  
  • Follow correct protocols for trash, recycling, and compost removal from restaurants, exercising proper care when transporting hazardous goods 
  • Assist restaurant team in end of the day cleaning and closing procedures if needed 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

Education & Experience Requirements 

  • Must be 18 years or older 
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred 
  • Valid, current, unrestricted driver's license required 
  • At least 2 years of experience in a facility maintenance or landscaping position required 
  • Prior experience driving a snowcat or similar equipment preferred 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities  

  • Knowledge of company policies and procedures  
  • Familiarity with company rules, regulations, and operational standards  
  • Knowledgeable on all restaurant and building mechanical equipment  
  • Skilled in effectively communicating both verbally and in writing with team members and guests in English  
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time, and complete tasks and goals efficiently and effectively  
  • Ability to do basic problem-solving  
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changes in processes, customer flow, environments, and tasks  
  • Ability to engage with customers in a positive and helpful manner  
  • Attention to detail  
  • Ability to be a team player, working collaboratively with others and developing strong relationships with those contacted in the course of work  
  • Ability to operate a variety of vehicles, including stick shift, snowcat, and snowmobile — required  
  • Ability to ski or ride at an intermediate level — required for winter operations at ski in/ski out locations  
  • Follows all safety policies and procedures and exercises caution when operating vehicles/equipment

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, stand, walk or be on your feet for extended periods of time 
  • Regularly work in wet, hot and humid conditions for extended periods of time and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces 
  • Must be able to continually lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance 
  • Certain locations, will require an employee to ski or snowboard
