Job Description

The Assistant Store Manager supports daily store operations, drives team performance, and ensures a consistent, elevated guest experience across Aspen Collection retail and seasonal rental locations. This role serves as a hands-on leader responsible for developing team members, executing operational priorities, and maintaining exceptional service, merchandising, rental, and operational standards. The Assistant Store Manager acts as Manager on Duty in the absence of the Store Manager, ensuring seamless operations, strong team alignment, and a premium guest experience that reflects the Aspen Collection brand. This position reports to the Store Manager. 

  • The budgeted salary range for this position is $63,000 - $75,600. Actual pay will be dependent on budget and experience, all our salaried roles are eligible for bonus.

Essential Job Functions/Key Job Responsibilities: 

  • Partner with the Store Manager to lead daily store operations, ensuring alignment on priorities, execution, and team performance while assuming full operational ownership in the Store Manager's absence 
  • Lead the sales floor during shifts by directing team focus, managing guest flow, and adjusting priorities in real time to deliver an elevated guest experience and maximize sales opportunities 
  • Model and reinforce exceptional guest service standards by delivering personalized service, addressing escalated guest concerns promptly, and ensuring professional resolution that builds guest loyalty and reflects the Aspen Collection brand 
  • Drive retail and rental performance through effective selling behaviors, client engagement, cross-selling, and accountability for key performance metrics including sales, conversion, average transaction value, units per transaction, and guest experience 
  • Coach, develop, and provide real-time feedback to associates and supervisors while supporting hiring, onboarding, and training to build a knowledgeable, high-performing team 
  • Oversee rental operations to ensure proper equipment selection, fitting, presentation, safety standards, and seamless integration with the overall retail guest experience 
  • Ensure accurate POS operations and cash handling standards, resolving escalated transaction issues and reinforcing accountability across the team 
  • Support inventory management including receiving, replenishment, transfers, and cycle counts while maintaining exceptional visual merchandising, premium store presentation, inventory accuracy, and brand standards 
  • Assist with scheduling and labor management to align staffing levels with business demand while ensuring appropriate floor coverage and an exceptional guest experience 
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and operational procedures, including execution of opening and closing responsibilities and maintaining overall store readiness 
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, product knowledge, and service excellence while supporting company initiatives, seasonal product launches, promotional events, and community activations 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

Education & Experience Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred 
  • 2–5 years of experience in premium retail, hospitality, outdoor retail, luxury retail, rental operations, or guest service environments required 
  • Minimum 1–2 years of previous supervisory or leadership experience required 
  • Demonstrated experience managing teams in a fast-paced, high-volume retail or rental environment preferred 
  • Experience in premium retail, apparel, outdoor, ski, snowboard, or seasonal rental operations strongly preferred 
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with POS systems, cash handling, and operational reporting required 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:   

  • Knowledge of premium retail and seasonal rental operations, including sales drivers, guest service standards, merchandising, visual presentation, and team workflows 
  • Knowledge of POS systems, cash handling procedures, inventory management, and basic operational reporting 
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to coach, motivate, and influence team performance 
  • Skill in making timely, effective operational and guest service decisions in a fast-paced, guest-focused retail environment 
  • Skill in delivering exceptional guest service while modeling premium hospitality and sales expectations for the team 
  • Skill in conflict resolution and addressing guest concerns and performance issues in a professional and constructive manner 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly in a fast-paced, seasonal retail and rental environment 
  • Ability to build and maintain a positive, accountable, and collaborative team culture 
  • Ability to maintain exceptional attention to detail in merchandising, operational execution, inventory accuracy, and guest interactions 
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and execute responsibilities effectively while supporting overall store performance 

Additional Information

Work Environment & Physical Demands 

  • Ability to stand, walk or be on your feet for extended periods of time. Kneeling and bending may be required  
  • Regularly work indoors with no adverse conditions. Some positions require exposure to outdoor elements or a combination of both indoors and outdoors and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces    
  • Must be able to frequently lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance
