Job Description
The Bike School Coach will teach downhill and cross-country mountain biking skills to individuals and groups of all ability levels, including children. Coaches create a fun, safe, and engaging environment that fosters skill development and confidence in riders. This position reports to the Bike School Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions / Key Job Responsibilities
- Collaborate with fellow coaches to organize groups and match students based on individual goals and abilities
- Teach and demonstrate mountain biking techniques in a safe environment using a variety of instructional methods
- Coach a range of lessons, including youth camps, beginner clinics, advanced skills sessions, and private lessons
- Lead individuals and groups on designated downhill and cross-country trails, ensuring a positive and inclusive experience
- Monitor and assess the progress of students, providing feedback and setting new goals to help them improve over time
- Provide excellent customer service by engaging with students, answering questions, and offering a welcoming environment before, during, and after lessons
- Assist with pre-ride bike checks and ensure equipment is properly maintained to meet safety standards
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education & Experience Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
- 3 years of coaching/teaching experience preferred, or equivalent experience as an advanced rider with instructional capabilities
- PMBIA Level 1 certification, or equivalent, preferred, or willingness to obtain within the first season
- Current CPR & First Aid certification preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Advanced mountain biking skills required; proven bike handling skills on a downhill course preferred
- Strong understanding of mountain biking techniques, including cornering, braking, climbing, descending, and jumping
- Familiarity with trail etiquette, emergency response, risk management, and basic bike maintenance
- Ability to demonstrate and explain biking maneuvers, provide constructive feedback, and adjust teaching approaches to meet student needs
- Capability to ride for extended periods, navigate uneven terrain, and adapt to varying weather conditions while maintaining high energy and focus
- Strong situational awareness with the ability to assess trail conditions and make real-time, safety-oriented decisions for students and oneself
- Ability to evaluate and adjust to changing trail, weather, and instructional challenges, making informed decisions that prioritize safety and effective learning
- Strong interpersonal skills, including self-awareness, social awareness, and the ability to build trust with guests and fellow employees
Additional Information
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, stand, bend or be on your feet for extended periods of time
- Regularly work in wet, cold, hot conditions requiring the use of protective apparel/equipment to prevent exposure to the elements and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces
- Must be able to frequently lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance (weight limits can vary according to position, but no more than 50)
