Job Description

The Child Care Attendant will provide quality childcare for children 2 months to 3 years old in our infant, toddler or preschool rooms. Working with the Lead Teachers, the Child Care Attendant will provide a stimulating, safe, and age appropriate environment where children have the opportunity to develop cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills. 

Applications for this position will be accepted until October 1, 2024 for the 2024-2025 Winter Season.

Essential Job Functions 

  • Create a safe environment for children, that promotes play, fun and learning  
  • Maintain knowledge of each child’s location at all times during the day and take actions to keep them safe and prevent injury  
  • Assist with planning and implementing individual and group age-appropriate activities such as art, story time, games, and outside play to engage children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth 
  • Attend to the personal needs of children (feeding, sleeping, diapering) as needed 
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians and provide timely feedback  
  • Maintain a clean, safe and fun environment including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children

Qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older required
  • Preschool, day camp, babysitting or other childcare experience working with children ages 3 and under required
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment and independently with groups of children required
  • High school diploma required, bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred 
  • Strong understanding of child development preferred 
  • CPR and First Aid certifications preferred  
  • Ability to speak Spanish or Portuguese preferred 

Additional Information

Supervision Given: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.  
Supervision Received: Works under general supervision of the Program Coordinator. Receives continuing or individual assignments according to supervisor’s directions and may perform routine tasks. Expectations of the quality, quantity and deadlines are clearly set. Instructions, advice and assistance available as needed. Work is reviewed on demand or during scheduled check-ins.   

Work Environment and Physical Demands 

  • Ability to stand, walk or be on your feet for extended periods of time. Kneeling and bending may be required  
  • Regularly work indoors with no adverse conditions. Some positions require exposure to outdoor elements or a combination of both indoors and outdoors and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces    
  • Must be able to frequently lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance
