Job Description

Summary 
The Banquet Captain supervises and assists in the service of banquet functions. Serve guests in a friendly, professional manner according to hotel standards working under the direction of the Food & Beverage Manager.  Prepare all pertaining paperwork in partnership with event team.

Essential Job Functions 
• Manage banquet staff to ensure high quality execution of events and large receptions
• Coordinate quality of food service between kitchen and banquet staff
• Oversee the set-up of assigned events including set up and breakdown of the room, post updated event communication including staff schedule
• Conduct pre-service meetings with staff. Attend monthly department meetings.  Attend weekly banquet event order (BEO) meetings
• Work closely with Group Sales Team and Events Sales Manager to ensure successful execution of events
• Act as primary event contact in the absence of the Event Sales Manager
• Properly close all banquet checks and communicate / report to F&B leaders, Group & Events team after each function
• View and read BEO’s in Alice (program where Events Sales Manager stores all up-to-date BEO’s) and complete reports and paperwork as assigned
• Monitor the inventory of banquet supplies and equipment, place orders as necessary through approved vendors 
• Assist F&B Manager with payroll information regarding schedule changes, missed punches, adding alternate job codes
• Perform other tasks or projects as assigned by hotel management and restaurant staff coverage
• Monitor staff grooming and uniform standards, provide feedback as necessary
• Act as Restaurant Supervisor when Banquet business levels decrease in support of the entire F&B department including acting MOD to ensure smooth operation of Restaurant/Lounge
• Communicate with service staff regarding anticipated business levels, conduct pre-shift meetings
• Support team during service by bussing tables, assisting guests, restocking product and service items
• Maintain a supervisory presence while working in the Restaurant/Lounge and connect with guests to ensure service standards and guest expectations are met
• Communicate and report guest related incidents with the F&B Manager to ensure guest experience are handled in a timely manner
• Develop and coach staff in partnership with F&B Manager and manage performance as necessary
 

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
• 3 years F&B experience 
• 2 years as Restaurant Supervisor or Banquet Captain preferred
• Serve Safe Certification preferred

Supervision Given and Received 
Given: Exercises direct supervision over banquet staff. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, frequent and detailed review of work, training, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Received: Works under limited supervision of Food and Beverage Manager. Receives guidance in terms of broad goals and overall objectives and is responsible for establishing strategical methods to attain them. Can formulate policies but does not necessarily have final authority for approval. Review of work is not detailed and emphasizes accomplishment of broad work objectives, rather than specific assignments.

Work Environment and Physical Demands  
Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, smell, taste, stand, walk or be on your feet for extended periods of time. Required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces, may be work in wet, hot and humid conditions. Must be able to constantly lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance.
