ASC also operates the rental & retail stores of Four Mountain Sports as well as the Award-winning Ski & Snowboard Schools of Aspen Snowmass.

Job Description

The Ski Patrol Director Oversee all aspects of day to day operations of mountain, in coordination with department supervisors and leads, assessed on a daily basis. This role manages and assigns all patrol operations to ensure the ski area is maintained in an efficient, well organized, safe, and enjoyable environment while consistently greeting and engaging our guests and promoting a fun and friendly atmosphere. 

This role typically pays around $75,000, actual pay will be dependent on budget and experience, all our salaried roles are eligible for bonus. 

Essential Job Functions
•    Encourage and inspire opportunities to enhance guest experiences, and initiates guest contact. 
•    Thorough knowledge of lift operations and lift evacuation procedures. Participate in lift evacuations under the guidance of lift evacuation technician or coordinator.
•    Coordinate and communicate with other departments all issues and events that effect mountain operations.
•    Work with government agencies.
•    Knowledge of the mountain, including trails, communication systems, high and low traffic areas, potential hazards, etc.
•    Awareness of medical/legal consequences and the vulnerability of the company to possible litigation arising from the nature of the industry. Care and transportation of injured skiers as necessary
•    Daily snow safety activity and avalanche control work
•    Coordinate work-related activities with all other departments
•    Coordinate special events and work with government agencies
•    Evaluate patrol performances daily.
•    Daily avalanche control, and general trail work
•    Train and execution lift evacuation procedures
•    Complete all ASC trainings for employees
•    Ensure accurate pay is completed for employees
•    Determine and mark trail openings and closures
•    Recommend hiring and/or termination of patrol staff.
•    Conduct and/or delegate training and evaluation of entire staff
•    Manage and plan all aspects of budgeting process, track spending
•    Discipline and coaching of staff with documentation
•    Thorough operational communication will all patrollers

Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree preferred 
•    Excellent communication skills, oral and written required
•    Expert skier in all terrain in all snow conditions and be able to work in adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time required
•    Complete knowledge of the Skiers Safety Act regarding marking of ski area boundaries and trail closures required
•    Current knowledge of tramway board regulations and state-of-the art evacuation techniques and equipment required

Supervision Given and Received
Supervision given: Exercises direct supervision over ski patrol. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, frequent and detailed review of work, training, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 
Supervision received: Works under limited supervision of the Area Manager. Receives guidance in terms of broad goals and overall objectives and is responsible for establishing strategical methods to attain them. Can formulate policies but does not necessarily have final authority for approval. Review of work is not detailed and emphasizes accomplishment of broad work objectives, rather than specific assignments.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, stand, bend or be on your feet for extended periods of time  
Regularly work in wet, cold, hot conditions requiring the use of protective apparel/equipment to prevent exposure to the elements and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces 
Must be able to lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance.

Certain locations will require an employee to ski or snowboard.
