Job Description

The Sommelier is responsible for maintaining a broad wine list and knowledge of wine for the restaurant. 
Essential Job Functions
• Work with Restaurant or General Manager once a week to conduct wine tasting (15 minutes) during pre-service. 
• Play integral role in the hiring and training of all new staff for the restaurant.
• Assist in the daily maintenance including organization, restocking, wine cellar, wine fridge, wine wall, to ensure it is current, clean and organized.
• Ensure all wine lists are always current.
• Constantly further your wine knowledge.
• Assist in the planning, organization and execution of all special wine events and promotions
• Benchmark and provide innovation on product, training, organization and systems as they relate to not only wine service but the day-to-day operation of the restaurant
 • Conduct monthly inventory working closely with wine director and accounting to resolve any inconsistencies with accounting in a timely manner.
• Complete tasks and projects delegated by your supervisor and assist other departments as business volumes and staff levels demand.
• Assist in emergency and security procedures as directed by management and the established emergency plan
• Comply with all policies and procedures of the Food and Beverage Department and the Aspen Skiing Company.

Qualifications

• Possess Excellent Computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
• Comfortable presenting and speaking in public to large groups
• College preferred or hotel/restaurant training
• 3 years in a fine dining establishment.
• Extensive wine knowledge (successful completion of advanced level of The Court of Master Sommeliers preferred)
• Knowledge of food and cooking methods
• Comprehend F&B finance models as they relate to pricing, inventory COGS, analysis and problem solving
• Exude hospitality, possess a thirst for knowledge and a contagious sense of enthusiasm towards food and wine

Supervision given and received 
Supervision Given: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 
Supervision Received: Works under general supervision of the Food & Beverage General Manager.  Receives continuing or individual assignments according to supervisor’s directions and may perform routine tasks. Expectations of the quality, quantity and deadlines are clearly set. Instructions, advice and assistance available as needed. Work is reviewed on demand or during scheduled check-ins.
Work Environment and Physical Demands 
Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, smell, taste, stand, walk or be on your feet for extended periods time. Regularly work in wet, hot and humid conditions for extended periods of time and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces. Must be able to constantly lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance
