Job Description

The Banquet Captain supervises and assists in the service of banquet functions. Also, they serve guests in a friendly, professional, and timely manner. 

Essential Job Functions 
•    Oversee the set-up of functions including checking of the physical layout of the room, providing the servers with the proper set-up information, and posting updated function sheets in the banquet kitchen
•    Conduct pre-service meetings with staff. 
•    Meet individual hosts and make himself or herself accessible to the host for to help with all needs 
•    Complete china, glass, and silver requisitions
•    Properly close all banquet checks and complete the captain’s logbook at the completion of the event 
•    Oversee the cleanup of all functions insuring the proper removal and storage of hotel linen and skirting, props, and specialty china. 
•    Prepare and post daily room assignments for servers including specific times for set-up and service
•    Assist the Food and Beverage Manager in the annual performance evaluations of the banquet servers
•    Ensure the proper care, security and maintenance of hotel equipment through proper supervision of service personnel
•    Monitor the staff’s appearance, attitude, and degree of professionalism.
•    Perform other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

•    High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
•    Three years in food and beverage service preferred
•    Knowledge of food and cooking methods and wine preferred 
•    Serve Safe Certification preferred

Supervision given and received 
Given: Exercises direct supervision over banquet staff. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, frequent and detailed review of work, training, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Received: Works under limited supervision of Food and Beverage Manager. Receives guidance in terms of broad goals and overall objectives and is responsible for establishing strategical methods to attain them. Can formulate policies but does not necessarily have final authority for approval. Review of work is not detailed and emphasizes accomplishment of broad work objectives, rather than specific assignments.


Work Environment and physical demands  
Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, smell, taste, stand, walk or be on your feet for extended periods of time. Regularly work in wet, hot and humid conditions for extended periods of time and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces. Must be able to constantly lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance
