Job Description

We are recruiting for an exciting opportunity and are looking for a Lead Packaging Operator to join our Packaging team at Meantime.

The Lead Packaging Operator is a production line based role and reports to the Packaging Manager. The successful candidate will work alongside the packaging team to deliver packaged volumes on time whilst adhering to the highest levels of safety, hygiene and quality.

Key accountabilities

The Lead Packaging Operator is responsible for the following key outputs and accountabilities

Health and Safety

  • Align to our goal of zero accidents in the work place.
  • Adherence to all Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all staff entering the packaging line are wearing the correct PPE.
  • Responsible for your own safety and of those around you.
  • Identify and report any hazards / unsafe practices to management and encourage the team to do so.
  • Responsible for the completion of machine safety checks to required frequencies

Quality

  • Work within the production teams deliver final product to the highest levels of quality and food safety.
  • Perform and make sure all line checks (including CCP’s) are completed to set frequencies.
  • Check that all production paperwork is being completed throughout production, from start-up to shut down.
  • Review and update department SOP’s. Create new control documents when required.
  • Compile end of week and end of month production figures across all packaging lines.
  • Assist in internal and external audits, and supporting the follow up actions that have been identified.
  • Immediately communicate any quality issues senior management.

Production

  • Responsible for sustaining the line performance in the delivery of the daily production plan and the completion of all paperwork relating to fill levels, beer / glass loss and line efficiencies at the end of each day.
  • Be the expert across all packaging lines, assisting in breakdowns to minimise downtime and drive efficiency.
  • Supervise & perform line change-overs, start ups and shut downs and identify areas for improvement.
  • Identify, prioritise & assist in the training of new members to the department & maintain the training standards as agreed for the area.
  • Provide line cover for breaks, holiday and sickness.
  • Organise the Team rota (Daily / Weekly), booking of holidays and welfare breaks during production.
  • Ensure the “PC” systems are updated for beer movements and loss recording.

Housekeeping and Hygiene

  • Issue and complete hygiene schedules to make sure all packaging areas are kept clean, tidy and free from hazards (e.g. slips and trips) at all times.
  • Perform CIP’s and sterilisations.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of 5s areas.
  • Adopt a clean as you go policy and maintain a good level of personal hygiene.
  • Assist engineers with troubleshooting and maintenance of the lines where required.
  • Assist in the completion of monthly stock checks.

Experience required

  • Prior experience of working on, and coordinating packaging line activities
  • Experience of set up & change over operations or similar demonstrable experience.
  • Fork lift truck license or willing to train to obtain one upon starting.
  • Practical, hands on approach with good communication skills both written and verbal (English language required).
  • Knowledge of using Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Strong teamwork both within the packaging team and with other departments.
  • Familiarity with HACCP an advantage.

  • Problem solving ability along with Practical, hands on approach with good communication skills both written and verbal (English language required).
  • Flexibility. This role may require switching between packaging departments and/or hours of work in order to meet packaging demands.
  • A ‘can-do’ attitude. Self-motivated to keep busy during quieter production times, periods of extended downtime etc.
  • Attention to detail with a desire to produce the best products and not taking short cuts which could compromise safety and quality.
