The Role

The Wines Development Manager will be passionate about wine, WSET qualified and ready to act as a wine ambassador for Nectar. They will have an outgoing personality and the ability to share their enthusiasm with colleagues and customers alike. A large part of their remit will be to grow the wine category both in volume and contribution.

  • Maximise wine sales and profitability.
  • Work closely with Nectar BDMs to exploit any wine opportunities
  • Identify gaps within the existing customer base and target these areas, working closely with BDMs to assist them in increasing wine sales and, where appropriate and as agreed with BDMs, actively sell wine yourself to existing customers and prospect new accounts when relevant.
  • Provide wine expertise and training to the rest of the sales team and put in place an agreed programme of training / tasting sessions based on current trends / sales focus
  • Develop and introduce a suite of tools to assist in the development of our wine category.
  • Increase the number of wine customers and their appreciation of this category.
  • Organise customer wine tastings.
  • Assist in customers’ wine list management as required including seasonal / menu changes.
  • Attend events on behalf of Nectar i.e. London Wine Fair
  • Work closely with both Marketing & Purchasing teams to assist in the development of the category.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Passionate about wine with a good knowledge of the wine industry.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to manage customers ahead of their expectations.
  • WSET level 2 minimum
  • Ideally some experience of working in the wine industry.
  • Great organisational skills including IT and administration with an eye for detail
  • Self-driven with an ability to work on their own initiative and as part of a team.
