Job Description
Mō te tūranga | About the opportunity
As a Cook at Arvida, you play a vital role in supporting the well-being of our residents by delivering high-quality, safe, and appetising meals tailored to individual nutritional needs. This is an active and rewarding role with plenty of personal interaction, where your culinary skills contribute directly to our residents’ quality of life.
You will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the kitchen, maintaining compliance with our Food Control Plan, and collaborating with the wider kitchen team to provide a first-class dining experience.
Guided by Arvida’s Attitude of Living Well philosophy, you will champion our Eating Well approach and help us achieve our internal gold standard for nutrition and care.

We will be interviewing and screening NZ Residents and NZ Citizens as a priority before looking internationally.
NZQF Level 4 qualification, or at least three years of relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 3)

$29.66 to $31.15 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience

- Previous experience in a commercial kitchen and/or cafe
- Exceptional cooking and baking skills
- Excellent food hygiene practices and a commitment to safe working practices
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Flexibility, adaptability and able to work well under pressure with good time management.
- Demonstrating techniques and advising on cooking procedures
- Empathy towards older adults, good interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Honesty, reliability, and integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine foodstuffs to ensure quality and freshness.
- Regulate temperatures of ovens, grills, and other cooking equipment.
- Prepare, cook, and season food to perfection.
- Portion meals, plate dishes attractively, and add gravies, sauces, and garnishes.
- Store food safely in temperature-controlled facilities.
- Prepare meals to meet special dietary requirements.
- Plan menus and estimate food requirements as needed.
