Job Description

Assigned to the Transmission, Distribution, and Energy production department as a professional in your discipline, you will be responsible for the delivery of specifications, designs, and documents, and for the quality and quantity of work assigned to you. Your duties will include project planning, development of design criteria, review and approval of final designs, and providing schedules and estimates for the projects.

  • Perform drafting for detailed conceptual plans, engineering designs, and the associated drawings for civil/structural work, regarding low, medium, and high voltage electrical transformers and distribution stations;
  • Perform the associated analysis and structural calculations;
  • Perform the design and drafting of structural detailed engineering and feasibility concept designs;
  • Excel in steel and concrete designs as per the analysis codes and 3D designs used in Canada and internationally;
  • Drafting skills in AutoCAD (2D and 3D, and Revit for the preparation of drawings;
  • Occasional on-site visits;
  • Perform hydraulic calculations and participate in the preparation of the report for approval with MOECP;
  • Experience with public service companies such as Hydro-One, Local Distribution Companies (LDCs), Ontario Power Generation (OPG), or the Ministry of Environment (MOECP), or with suppliers such as ABB, Alstom, GE, DeltaStar, or others, is an asset.
  • You will develop an expertise in energy transmission and distribution in LV, MV, and HV Markets.

Qualifications

  • Recognized university degree, technical diploma, or technologist with preference given to direct experience in civil/structural engineering and quality assurance, QC inspections, and methods;
  • Registration as CET or Equivalent;
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience;
  • Familiar with the major design codes and standards;
  • Skilled in 2D and 3D drafting and design, structural / foundation analysis and design software;
  • Practical experience with AutoCAD (2D & 3D), Civil 3D, Revit, and MS Office Suite;
  • Efficient organizational abilities in writing reports and estimates;
  • Excellent efficiency in written and spoken English;
  • Excellent communication skills and able to respect deadlines;
  • Good team player and good sense of priorities;
  • Detail oriented, as the position requires the production of detailed and specific drawings;
  • Takes initiative;
  • Able to collaborate with engineers, technicians and drafters;
  • Strong observational skills, curious, resourceful when participating in the design of a project.
