Job Description

The distribution engineering field is going new age.  Distributed energy resources and new technology is abound and APS is on the forefront.  Smart technologies intermixed with classical equipment and distributed generation provides the Distribution System Planning Engineer many new opportunities.  APS is looking for a Distribution System Planning Engineer III or Sr. who can accept the challenge to master the new technologies and make a difference.  If you are that person we would like to talk to you.

Responsibilities

Our engineer will perform analysis on distribution circuits using the CYME distribution planning program. Our engineer will develop a multi-year long range forecast that will ensure the most economic distribution system. Our engineer will be required to understand the effects of and recommend areas of need that distributed energy resources (DER) can be implemented. Our engineer will provide technical knowledge and expertise to ensure reliability and stability of our distribution system.  Our engineer will be required to facilitate multi-department meetings to develop capital projects to address system deficiencies identified as a result of forecast assumptions.  Our engineer will be responsible for working with divisional personnel to find most cost efficient ways to serve new customers.  Our engineer is to work with partnering distribution engineers to ensure that all flicker and protection requirements have been addressed for new customer loads. Our Engineer must maintain a thorough knowledge of new development and technology through involvement and/or interaction with research institutes (EPRI, etc.), research labs (NREL, etc.) and regulatory bodies (PUC).  Our engineer may also provide research on new developments & technology and make recommendations to management.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements Engineer, III

Our successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Requires Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering plus five (5) years engineering experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Registration as Professional Engineer is a plus.
  • Must possess comprehensive knowledge of distribution system analysis, engineering applications, operations, business and finance, applicable codes, standards, practices, and methods in the area of individual’s discipline.
  • Must have good understanding of electric utility construction, maintenance, operating, and engineering practices.
  • Must have working knowledge of distribution system planning and engineering for urban/metro areas and network feeders.
  • Must be experienced performing distribution system feeder simulation and modeling with distribution system planning and analysis program/software (CYME).
  • Must have valid AZ driver’s license. 

Minimum Requirements Engineer, Senior

Our successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Requires Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering plus eight (8) years engineering experience, or Professional Engineer designation plus eight (8) years engineering experience or 12 years equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
  • Must possess in-depth knowledge of distribution system analysis, engineering applications, operations, business and finance, applicable codes, standards, practices, and methods in the area of assigned discipline. 
  • In-depth understanding of electric utility construction, maintenance, operating and engineering practices.
  • Must have working knowledge of distribution system planning and engineering for urban/metro areas and network feeders.
  • Must be experienced performing distribution system feeder simulation and modeling with distribution system planning and analysis program/software (CYME).
  • Must have valid AZ driver’s license.
