Job Description

Arizona Public Service has an opportunity for an Engineer II/III in our Substation Engineering and Design Department who will perform engineering design, modifications, economic and analytical support for Transmission and Distribution Substations.  Additional Responsibilities for the Engineer position include:

  • Design work will include all facets of physical equipment layout, foundation and steel structural design, protective relaying and control schemes and supervisory control. 
  • Successful candidate will interact with diverse teams to evaluate alternatives and provide solutions for substation equipment additions and improvements. 
  • Ensures the reliability and safe operation of electrical system by conforming to industry safety standards, applying safe work practices, and analyzing load and reliability data. 
  • May be responsible for project leadership of simple to simple-complex designs for construction, location and relocation of company facilities. 
  • Plans, designs, schedules, coordinates and ensures completion of all aspects of the project, from initiation through construction close out. 
  • Prepares Requests for Proposal for contracting engineering services. 
  • Oversees the design work from external firms to ensure APS standards are maintained. 
  • Work is performed with general guidance on specific engineering design, modifications, and technical assistance.

Minimum Requirements

  • Engineer II - will have a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering plus two (2) years of applicable experience or; Professional Engineer or; equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Engineer III - will have a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering plus five (5) years of applicable experience or; Professional Engineer designation plus five (5) years working experience or; nine years equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Experience

  • Transmission and Distribution Substation design experience.

  • Engineer III - will have a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering plus five (5) years of applicable experience or; Professional Engineer designation plus five (5) years working experience or; nine years equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Experience

  • Transmission and Distribution Substation design experience.
