Job Description

The Environmental Manager will be responsible for leading the overall environmental management and compliance of the Project. The role will act as the primary environmental liaison with Employer, environmental consultants, laboratories, subcontractors and other relevant stakeholders. The Environmental Manager will ensure that project activities comply with contractual environmental requirements, applicable legislation, environmental permits and authorizations, international standards and conventions, the approved Construction Environmental Management Plan, and associated environmental sub-plans.

What you will need to do:

  • Lead the development, implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of the project Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP/CESMP), associated environmental sub-plans and environmental management system documentation including project environmental aspects and impacts register, environmental risk assessments, legal and permit compliance registers, environmental objectives and targets, monitoring records, incident investigations,  inspection reports, Client/ internal environmental reports etc.
  • Coordinate and manage qualified third-party environmental consultants,  laboratories and monitoring personnel for the preparation of environmental studies, baseline surveys, specialist assessments, sampling programmes, laboratory testing etc.
  • Plan, supervise, and review environmental monitoring activities, including marine water quality, sediment quality, sensitive habitats and fauna, wastewater management, waste management, pollution prevention measures, and environmental performance reporting to ensure contractual and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct regular environmental inspections and audits to verify compliance with the CEMP/CESMP, permit conditions, contractual requirements, approved mitigation measures, and environmental procedures. Record findings and non-conformities, recommend corrective and preventive actions, assign responsibilities, and monitor actions through to effective close-out.
  • Ensure that environmental requirements and mitigation measures are integrated into construction methodologies, method statements, work plans, procurement activities, and daily site operations.
  • Act as the primary environmental focal point with the Client, Engineer, regulatory authorities, consultants, laboratories, and project management team, providing environmental leadership, compliance assurance, technical guidance, environmental training, reporting, and support throughout all phases of the project.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Marine Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of environmental management experience in construction projects, preferably within major EPC or infrastructure developments on  similar roles
  • Previous experience in marine construction projects involving dredging, reclamation, marine infrastructure, or similar marine works is highly desirable but not a must.
  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation and implementation of CEMP/CESMP programs and associated environmental management plans.
  • Experience in managing environmental baseline surveys and monitoring programs, coordinating environmental consultants and accredited laboratories, and ensuring compliance with international environmental standards and good practices applicable to infrastructure construction projects.
