Job Description

The Ceded Reinsurance Accountant will assume responsibility for all aspects of accounting for
assigned ceded reinsurance contracts.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Verification of underwriting data for quota share and/or excess of loss contracts written by our fronting platform, Capital Solutions.
  • Maintain the accuracy of premium information on excess of loss contracts written by the Capital Solutions platform including endorsements, premium adjustments, and cash allocations
  • Maintain all aspects of quota share programs written by the Capital Solutions platform including bordereau reporting and posting, claims payments and cash allocation
  • Verification and release of ceded reinsurance contracts written by the Bermuda underwriting ceded reinsurance team
  • Monitor, and maintain within 90-day threshold, aging of accounts receivable/payable
  • Liaise with brokers, claims department and underwriting departments regarding queries, outstanding receivables/payables, and premium adjustments
  • Initiation of funding and withdrawal instructions in our Collateral Pay system to facilitate bordereaux settlements and collateral transactions
  • Ad hoc administrative support to the Outwards Finance team as required
  • Participate in systems enhancements including developing and executing test plans
  • Additional projects and duties as required

Qualifications

  • A professional accounting qualification (CA, CPA, ACA) is required with preference given to candidates with experience in public accounting
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience, some of which must have been spent with a reinsurance company
  • Previous experience reading and interpreting reinsurance terms and contracts. Technical knowledge of reserving and settlement practices are an asset
  • Understanding of accounting for quota share and excess of loss contracts and must have experience with underwriting systems
  • Financial reporting experience within a SOX and SEC regulated environment preferred
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels and in all areas of the organization across various time zones
  • A strong work ethic and the ability to take initiative and work without supervision, as well as the ability to handle confidential information with absolute discretion
  • Fluent in English, both written and oral
  • Exceptional analytical, documentation and presentation skills
  • Strong computer skills, in particular, proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications, primarily Excel
