Job Description

We're looking for a dedicated and hardworking Kitchen Porter to join our dynamic team in Cork, Ireland. As a Kitchen Porter, you will be an essential part of our kitchen operations, ensuring that our workspace remains clean, organized, and efficient. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to work in a fast-paced hospitality environment while developing your skills in food service support and becoming a valued member of our collaborative team.

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen, including washing dishes, utensils, cookware and kitchen equipment using commercial dishwashing equipment.
  • Organise and store kitchen equipment, ingredients and supplies in designated areas in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assist with food preparation tasks, including peeling, chopping, portioning and preparing ingredients as directed by kitchen staff.
  • Remove and dispose of waste and recyclable materials in compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.
  • Carry out general kitchen cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping and sanitising work surfaces, equipment and high-touch areas.
  • Support kitchen staff by restocking supplies, ensuring essential items are readily available and maintaining awareness of stock levels.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards, including HACCP regulations, and report any concerns to management.
  • Check food deliveries to ensure that only produce meeting the required quality standards is accepted.
  • Ensure food is stored correctly in accordance with food hygiene regulations and that the First In, First Out (FIFO) stock rotation system is followed.
  • Monitor and record food and equipment temperatures in accordance with established procedures.
  • Ensure the correct storage of food items and kitchen equipment after service.
  • Carry out cleaning duties associated with food service, kitchen equipment and furniture.
  • Maintain personal hygiene, appearance and uniform in accordance with company standards at all times.
  • Comply with and support the implementation of the company’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Identify and report equipment malfunctions, maintenance issues and safety hazards to the line manager promptly.
  • Handle, lift and move heavy items safely, using appropriate techniques and equipment where necessary.
  • Work efficiently and collaboratively with the kitchen team during peak service periods to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and operational requirements in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the line manager from time to time to support the smooth running of the department.

Qualifications

  • A keen interest in food and customer service.
  • Flexibility in working hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Good knowledge of food hygiene and safety standards, including HACCP.
  • Good understanding of English.
  • Previous experience as a Kitchen Porter or in a similar hospitality support role is preferred.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-pressure kitchen environment.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Good organisational and time management skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and taking pride in the quality of work.
  • Good teamwork and communication skills, with a collaborative approach.
  • Reliability, punctuality and commitment to assigned shift patterns.
  • Willingness to follow instructions, accept feedback and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Basic knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment and cleaning procedures is preferred.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy items safely using appropriate techniques.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and addressing problems.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic and enthusiasm for supporting the kitchen team.
  • Awareness of waste management and recycling procedures.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks consistently and carefully.
