Kumba Iron Ore               

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Rosebank, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

As Supply Chain Operations Manager your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

Safety, Health, and Environment:

• Promote a culture of zero harm through visible safety leadership and proactive risk management.
• Ensure compliance with Anglo American SHE policies, standards, procedures and legal requirements.

Supply Chain Strategy and Business Partnership:

• Contribute to global, regional and BU Supply Chain strategies, plans and budgets.
• Translate Supply Chain strategies into operational plans, priorities, targets and resource requirements.
• Partner with Asset Leadership to align Supply Chain activities with business objectives.
• Influence category and sourcing strategies to support operational and business requirements.
• Integrate operational requirements into demand planning, forecasting, procurement and commercial planning.
• Drive adoption of technology, digitalisation and improved ways of working.
• Implement reporting and KPI frameworks to support performance management and decision-making.

Supply Chain Operational Excellence:

• Accountable for end-to-end Supply Chain operational performance at asset level.
• Lead Supply Chain excellence, operating model and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Identify and remove barriers impacting service delivery, inventory performance and business continuity.
• Support implementation of Group and BU Supply Chain initiatives.
• Drive benchmarking, best practice sharing and cross-functional collaboration.
• Provide operational input into Supply Chain standards, policies and best practices.

Materials Planning, Inventory, Warehousing and Logistics:

• Define and execute strategies for materials planning, inventory, warehousing and logistics.
• Optimise inventory levels and material availability while achieving working capital targets.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance and engineering teams to align future demand requirements.
• Ensure the accuracy, security and availability of warehouse inventory.
• Drive inventory optimisation and reduction of excess and obsolete stock.
• Oversee warehouse operations, logistics performance and material movements.
• Ensure effective warehouse capacity planning, storage and materials handling practices.
• Drive OTIF performance and resolve issues impacting operational continuity.
• Establish planning routines and stakeholder engagement forums to support execution

Commercial Value Delivery and Supplier Partnership:

• Provide commercial and technical input into sourcing strategies, supplier evaluations and contracts.
• Deliver Supply Chain targets, working capital objectives and cost optimisation initiatives.
• Support inventory-related working capital improvement programmes.
• Manage warehousing, logistics and related operational budgets.
• Foster strong supplier partnerships and Supplier Relationship Management practices.
• Ensure supplier performance supports operational requirements and value delivery.

Stakeholder and Interface Management:

• Act as the primary interface between Supply Chain, Operations and external stakeholders.
• Provide Supply Chain leadership and advice to asset leadership teams.
• Facilitate collaboration across operational, maintenance, technical, commercial and Supply Chain functions.
• Resolve complex Supply Chain issues and escalations.
• Establish effective stakeholder engagement and governance forums.
• Ensure operational requirements are reflected in inventory, warehousing and logistics activities.

Inclusive Procurement, Sustainability and Social Value:

• Support Inclusive Procurement plans aligned to business and regional objectives.
• Identify opportunities to increase host community participation within the Supply Chain.
• Support the delivery of social, labour and sustainable mine plan commitments.
• Support sustainability initiatives, including logistics optimisation and environmental improvement programmes.

Governance, Compliance and Risk Management:

• Ensure compliance with Supply Chain policies, governance standards and delegated authorities.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain effective controls across inventory, warehousing and logistics processes.
• Monitor and report performance against governance and compliance requirements.
• Drive audit readiness and continuous compliance improvement.
• Identify, assess and mitigate operational and Supply Chain risks.

This role is in Supply Chain (SC) department on a Band 5 (E Lower) level reporting to the General Manager.

• Grade 12 or equivalent
• A postgraduate qualification equivalent in Supply Chain Management/Procurement/ or a relevant discipline on NQF8
• SA Driver’s Licence

Technical Knowledge

• Comprehensive knowledge of end-to-end Supply Chain Management, including sourcing, procurement, materials planning, inventory, warehousing and logistics, gained through 8–10 years of experience.
• Advanced knowledge of inventory optimisation, demand forecasting, materials planning and working capital management.
• Strong understanding of warehousing and logistics operations, including storage, distribution, transportation and third-party logistics management.
• Sound knowledge of safety, governance, risk and compliance requirements, including contractor management and regulatory standards.
• Knowledge of Supply Chain systems, digitalisation and analytics, including SAP, Oracle and other SCM technologies.
