Job Description
As Supervisor Mechanical (Screening and Staging) your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
Safety, Health, and Environment
- Promote and maintain a zero-harm safety culture.
- Apply safety, health, and environmental standards in all work activities.
Maintenance Execution and Asset Reliability:
- Execute approved maintenance plans to ensure equipment reliability and plant availability.
- Supervise preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.
- Ensure maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently, and to required quality standards.
- Monitor equipment condition and identify opportunities to improve reliability and asset performance.
- Support breakdown investigations and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Minimise equipment downtime through effective maintenance execution and problem-solving.
Contractor Management:
- Manage maintenance contractors to ensure safe and effective work execution.
- Monitor contractor performance against agreed service levels and KPIs.
- Identify and address contractor performance gaps and implement corrective actions.
- Provide input into contractor utilisation and insourcing/outsourcing decisions.
- Respond effectively to unplanned maintenance events and resource requirements.
Planning and Coordination:
- Develop and execute weekly maintenance schedules aligned with operational and engineering requirements.
- Coordinate with production, planning, reliability, and engineering teams to optimise equipment availability.
- Identify maintenance risks and proactively implement contingency plans.
- Participate in maintenance shutdown planning and execution activities.
- Monitor work management compliance and ensure adherence to approved schedules.
Shift Handovers and Continuity:
- Ensure structured and effective shift handovers between supervisors and maintenance teams.
- Communicate critical equipment status, breakdowns, safety risks, outstanding work, and operational priorities.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and administrative documentation.
Resource Management and Administration:
- Ensure adequate availability of maintenance resources, tools, equipment, materials, and spares.
- Monitor labour utilisation and maintenance resource allocation.
- Support maintenance performance reporting and supervisory scorecard requirements.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and personnel records.
Performance Monitoring and Continuous Improvement:
- Monitor maintenance KPIs including equipment availability, reliability, downtime, and schedule compliance.
- Identify improvement opportunities to enhance asset performance and maintenance effectiveness.
- Support reliability improvement initiatives and root cause analysis processes.
- Drive continuous improvement and waste reduction initiatives within the maintenance environment.
Maintenance Quality Assurance:
- Conduct inspections to verify maintenance work quality and compliance with engineering standards.
- Perform Planned Task Observations (PTOs) and enforce corrective actions where required.
- Ensure maintenance work meets required specifications, procedures, and quality requirements.
- Verify completion and close-out of work orders in accordance with maintenance processes.
Budget Management and Cost Control:
- Support the management of maintenance budgets and expenditure within approved limits.
- Monitor labour, contractor, and maintenance costs.
- Promote cost-effective utilisation of resources and maintenance materials.
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or asset integrity.
People and Teams:
- Promote a purpose-led culture aligned with company values, inclusivity, and diversity.
- Set clear expectations and performance standards for team members.
- Facilitate daily team meetings, toolbox talks, and maintenance planning discussions.
- Manage team performance and provide coaching, mentoring, and constructive feedback.
- Foster teamwork, accountability, and collaboration across functions.
- Encourage employee engagement and participation in continuous improvement initiatives.
Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act, applicable regulations, engineering standards, and Anglo American requirements.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, standards, and Codes of Practice.
- Act at the next higher level when required to maintain operational and maintenance continuity.
This role is in Engineering (ENG) department on a Band 7 (C-Upper) level reporting to the General Engineering Supervisor DSO.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 (with Mathematics and Physical Science)/N3 Technical
- Relevant Higher National Qualification, e.g. N4 (NQF5)
- A2 Safety Training Certificate
- SA Drivers Licence Code B
Technical Knowledge
- Demonstrate engineering and mechanical maintenance experience, with at least 5 years in a mining, mineral processing, or heavy industrial environment.
- Understand the operation and maintenance requirements of Screening and Staging equipment and associated plant infrastructure.
- Familiar with maintenance practices, operating procedures, equipment capabilities, and equipment reliability principles.
- Understand risk management techniques, critical controls, and safe work practices relevant to the maintenance environment.
- In-depth knowledge of safety, health, environmental, legislative, and regulatory requirements applicable to engineering and maintenance activities.
- Knowledge of planned maintenance systems, breakdown management, and work management processes.
- Understand how to interpret technical drawings, maintenance documentation, and equipment manuals.
