The Sakatti deposit is located in Finnish Lapland near the town of Sodankylä, and within the existing exploration permit areas fully owned by Anglo American Sakatti Mining Oy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Anglo American Plc. The Sakatti deposit is a unique, poly-metallic deposit that contains seven payable metals, including copper, nickel, cobalt, platinum, palladium, gold, and silver. The mine is targeted to produce two concentrates, high-grade copper and nickel concentrates but has optionality available to produce a bulk Cu-Ni concentrate.
Job Description
We are seeking a Database Geologist to manage and maintain geoscience drill hole, sampling, and geological databases, ensuring data is accurately captured, governed, quality controlled, preserved and accessible to support resource estimation, technical studies, mine development and operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining the integrity and reliability of geological data, implementing best-practice data management processes and providing trusted datasets for operational and strategic decision-making.
Core Responsibilities (amongst others):
- Manage, maintain, and develop the acQuire drill hole database, sampling, assay, and related geoscience databases, ensuring data integrity, security, accessibility, and long-term preservation.
- Implement best-practice data governance, standards, procedures, protocols, and audit-ready workflows aligned with company requirements.
- Ensure validated, fit-for-purpose geoscience data is available to support modelling, resource estimation, technical studies, reporting, mine planning, and operational readiness.
- Support QAQC, sample tracking, laboratory data workflows, and data quality reviews through reliable data capture, loading, validation, and availability.
- Support spatial data management, data extraction, reporting, and delivery of geoscience data products.
- Provide database access, user support, training, and mentoring to relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Geo IM, Geoscience, Exploration, IM, laboratories, and vendors to improve data integration, workflows, templates, digital tools, and database systems.
- Support the evaluation and implementation of emerging technologies into drill core logging workflows, such as Assisted Core Logging where relevant.
Qualifications
- MSc degree in Geology, Geoscience, Mining Geology or similar required
- Proven experience in geoscience database management, including advanced SQL skills, data validation, governance, quality control, maintenance, and reporting. Experience with acQuire database administration is highly preferred, particularly beyond user-level experience, including back-end configuration, development, and troubleshooting
- Good understanding of assaying, sampling workflows and QAQC principles to ensure data is accurate and fit for purpose.
- Good understanding of exploration and mining data types and how data from different methods is captured, managed, validated and integrated within geoscience database workflows.
- Knowledge of Resource and Reserve reporting codes, such as SAMREC, JORC or NI 43-101, is beneficial.
