Kumba Iron Ore               

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Rosebank, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Job Description

As Team Lead – Port and Quality your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

 

  • Ensure the consistent application of all SHEQ standards, procedures, and requirements to maintain a safe and healthy working environment.

Port Planning, Quality and Value Optimisation:

  • Ensure optimal train offloading at the Port by considering the quality of products received from different mines.
  • Plan product blends to maximise value and revenue for both the Marketing and Production Business Units.
  • Manage stockpiles, product blending, and vessel loading to maximise revenue and prevent contractual penalties.
  • Ensure stacking and reclaiming activities enable maximum terminal loading rates to maximise export volumes.
  • Maintain accountability for Quality Certification Approvals.
  • Continuously review processes to identify opportunities for value maximisation.

Market Intelligence and Advisory:

  • Collect and analyse port intelligence relating to competitors and shipments to provide advisory support to Marketing teams.

Planning, Scheduling and Reporting:

 

  • Prepare, update, and distribute:
    • Port stacking and loading schedules.
    • Lists of issues and faults.
    • Provisional planning specifications.
    • Two-week quality plans.
  • Evaluate and review:
    • Final rail plans.
    • Vessel plans.
    • Final load plans.
    • Bed qualities.
    • The following week’s Business Plan.

Leadership:

  • Effectively lead, manage, and support the personal and professional development of direct reports to ensure the achievement of agreed business targets.

Compliance:

  • Adhere to all Anglo American Group and Marketing policies, procedures, and standards of conduct relevant to the role.
  • Comply with Anglo American Security and Operating Standards.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Manage high-performing collaboration between Transnet Port Terminals Operations, the Sampling Plant Operator, Stevedores, the Trucking Contractor, and the Kumba Quality Department to deliver optimal value for Kumba Iron Ore.
  • Build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships with Transnet Port Terminals, Stevedores, the Sampling Plant, and the Trucking Company.

This role is in IOEC Operations - (IOEC) department on a Band 6 (D-Lower) level reporting to the Manager IOEC Operations.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12/ N3 Technical
  • National Diploma (NQF 6) in Logistics Management, Supply Chain Management, Quality Management, Metallurgy, Mining, Engineering, Operations Management or a related field.
  • B-Degree (NQF7) in Logistics Management, Supply Chain Management, Quality Management, Metallurgy, Mining, Engineering, Operations Management or a related field is preferred.
  • ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems training or certification is preferred.
  • SA Drivers Licence

 

Technical Knowledge

  • 3–5 years' experience in quality control, logistics, shipping, port operations, mining, supply chain, or bulk commodities export environments.
  • Sound knowledge of contract management.
  • Demonstrated experience in bulk material handling, export shipping, rail-to port logistics coordination, stockpile management, product blending, vessel loading, and quality certification processes.
  • Sound knowledge of port terminal operations, quality assurance and sampling procedures, blending optimisation, export contracts, customer quality specifications, and SHEQ and risk management systems.
  • Experience in data analysis, operational planning, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, SAP, Dispatch System (Modular), and SORD.
  • Working knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), environmental management, occupational health, and risk management standards.
