Upstream Technology is based in Cape Town, South Africa and is part of the De Beers group. Activities managed include Marine exploration, geophysical surveys, mining, ship conversion, upgrades and maintenance, large project management, engineering design and mining system equipment builds. Upstream Technology executes world leading R&D in marine mining practices resulting in the most successful and advanced marine mining equipment and operations globally.

Job Description

To manage and coordinate the planning, associated resources and scheduling related to the scope of works executed by the In-Port Team ensuring that the schedule is executed safely in the most cost-effective and expedient manner.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Development of integrated schedule plans:
    • Ensuring alignment with group scheduling standards
    • Ensuring alignment with other key elements of the Project e.g., Safety, Risk, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning and Cost Engineering
    • Development of the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
  • Development and maintaining of fully integrated complex EPC and EPCM Project Master Schedule for monitoring and controlling against tasks, milestone and deliverables:
    • Preparing a Basis of Schedule
    • Validating benchmarks of durations
    • Coordinating with all relevant stakeholders to define schedule requirements
    • Resource loading where applicable
    • Apply critical path and critical chain methods to the schedule
    • Assessing risks to the critical path
    • Assessing opportunities to optimize the schedule
  • Monitor and control progress against schedule:
    • Progress tracking and trending by application of Earned Value principles
    • Identify and communicate any schedule conflicts, resource and time constraints, etc. to the In-Port Manager
  • Comprehensive critical path and near critical path management in-put Ensures transparent reporting of progress supported by:
    • Quality assurance on the schedule updating/reporting
    • Effective communication of key messages to relevant stakeholders
    • S-Curves and executive reporting dashboards.
  • Management and co-ordination of resources:
    • Ensuring the allocation of both internal and external resources to support the effectiveness of all projects.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree or NQF 7 equivalent
  • Qualification in Project Planning and Project Management – PMI-SP or PMI-PMP
  • Minimum of 10years relevant work experience in the planning and scheduling environment with at least 5 years’ experience in Marine Mining Industry
  • Minimum of 5 years operating at a Senior Planner level.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel Skills (EVM templates, Pivot tables)
  • Advanced knowledge of Project Planning software – Primavera P6, MS Projects and Synchro Pro 4D
  • Intermediate knowledge of producing schedules and animations utilizing Bentley Synchro Pro 4D
