Kumba Iron Ore
We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.
Job Description
As a Dispatcher your responsibilities will include:
- Safely operate and control equipment/materials as instructed.
- Ensure all activities are conducted following the Minerals Act and Regulations.
- Compliance with OSHAS and MHS Acts.
- Performance and Delivery
- Equipment Operation
- Operate equipment and vehicles safely to transport materials as instructed.
- Prevent injuries and damage to assets by following procedures, specifications, and standards.
- Communicate with mine personnel to ensure safe operations.
- Inspections and Safety
- Perform pre-shift inspections of vehicles, equipment, and components to check functionality and safety.
- Monitor equipment and vehicle performance continuously and report defects to the Supervisor.
- Inspect loading areas, ensure floors are clean, and place no-entry signs.
- Inspect the production face for misfires and report immediately.
- Inspect high walls near shovels for stability to eliminate unsafe conditions.
- Ensure electric cables and mast poles are positioned correctly for shovel power supply.
- Conduct site safety inspections and issue safety declarations.
- Loading Process
- Monitor the loading process continuously during the shift.
- Report abnormal conditions, production deviations, and high-risk situations.
- Load trucks according to required tempo, standards, and weekly production schedules.
- Adhere to design parameters and production schedules.
- Equipment Care and Utilisation
- Keep equipment tidy and functional at all times.
- Perform cleaning activities beyond allocated areas when required.
- Ensure routine maintenance and inspections are carried out to prevent breakdowns.
- Optimise equipment schedules to match operational demands.
- Facilitate proper shift handovers to minimise downtime.
- Enhance utilisation of equipment for optimal efficiency.
- Assistance and Engagement
- Assist the supervisor and co-workers when instructed or during the absence of the responsible person.
- Escalate potential risks and operational challenges to the supervisor.
- Promote engagement and cooperation among team members.
- Outputs
- Safe operations for subordinates and the environment.
- Safety inspections and declarations completed.
- Trucks loaded according to tempo, standards, and schedules.
- Neat and functional equipment.
- Minimal downtime due to unplanned events.
- Effective shift planning and handovers.
This role is in the Mining (MIN) department on a band 7.8 (C4) level and reports to the Supervisor Loading
Qualifications
- Grade 12/N3
- SA Drivers Licence
- Red Permit
- Valid Dover Certificate
- Valid FEL / Excavator / Track Bulldozer Licences
- Relevant HME Licenses
- DMRE-approved Blasting certificate (advantageous)
- Comp A (Advantageous)
Technical Knowledge
- Current technical understanding, with 2-3 years of relevant operational experience in mining
- In-depth knowledge of the Equipment operational systems, e.g., collision prevention, fire suppression system, etc
- Understand operational processes and procedures within the scope of the role.
- Knowledge of mine traffic rules and compliance requirements, safety standards and how to apply them in daily tasks.
- Knowledge of company policies and procedures relevant to operations.
