Anglo American’s International Cybersecurity Early Careers Programme develops the next generation of cybersecurity professionals across our global operations. The programme provides structured learning, hands-on experience and professional development opportunities to early career professionals across Anglo American sites.

As part of the programme’s continued global expansion, we are offering Cybersecurity Learnership opportunities in South Africa.

This 12-month Learnership combines structured learning with practical experience working alongside Anglo American cybersecurity professionals. Learners will gain exposure to how cybersecurity teams operate globally, learning how organisations manage cyber risk, detect and respond to security incidents, investigate digital evidence and promote safer behaviours online.

Learners will complete structured training and prepare for the CompTIA Security+ certification, gaining both practical and theoretical cybersecurity knowledge throughout the programme.

The Learnership provides exposure to multiple areas of cybersecurity including:

  • Cyber threat intelligence
  • Digital forensics and investigations
  • Security operations
  • Cyber risk management
  • Human cyber risk and user awareness training

This programme provides a strong foundation for a future career in cybersecurity or information security.

Job Description

As a Cybersecurity Learner, you will support the Cybersecurity Operations team while participating in the International Cybersecurity Early Careers Programme. The role provides hands-on exposure to cybersecurity operations while developing foundational knowledge through structured training and certification preparation.

 

Cybersecurity Operations Exposure

  • Understand how cybersecurity teams conduct monitoring and identify potential security threats.
  • Learn how to analyse security alerts and understand how incidents are detected and managed.
  • Participate in investigations of suspicious activity under the guidance of experienced analysts.
  • Gain exposure to how cybersecurity teams coordinate responses to security incidents.

Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI)

  • Learn how to gather and analyse threat intelligence from internal and external sources.
  • Contribute to basic threat reporting and intelligence summaries.
  • Learn how threat intelligence supports proactive cyber defence.

Digital Forensics Exposure

  • Practice evidence collection and analysis activities under supervision.
  • Learn how digital investigations are conducted in a forensically sound and legally compliant manner.
  • Gain exposure to forensic tools and investigation methodologies used by cybersecurity teams.

Human Cyber Risk & Awareness

  • Support user awareness initiatives aimed at helping employees develop safer online behaviours.
  • Assist in preparing cybersecurity awareness materials and training sessions.
  • Help analyse behavioural data to identify areas where additional awareness training may be required.

Learning and Certification Development

  • Participate in structured training sessions as part of the Early Careers Programme.
  • Complete study activities and coursework aligned to the CompTIA Security+ certification.
  • Prepare for and complete certification examinations during the Learnership.

Programme Participation

  • Engage in professional development activities designed to build workplace skills.
  • Participate in programme learning sessions and knowledge-sharing activities.
  • Track learning progress and maintain study commitments throughout the Learnership.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Learnership programme, you must: 

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have completed Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science
  • Have strong interest in cybersecurity and information security.
  • Have good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Have good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Have the ability to learn new technologies and concepts quickly.
  • Have good written and spoken English communication skills are required for this role.

 

What to Expect.

  • Preparation for the CompTIA Security+ certification.
  • Exposure to real-world cybersecurity operations and investigations.
  • Experience working within a global cybersecurity environment.

  • The first stage of the recruitment process is a review of your CV.  
  • Should you meet the requirements for the role, you will be invited to interview. Upon successful completion of the interview, you will progress to the psychometric assessments, which are to be completed by set deadline.
