Job Description
The purpose of this role is to ensure that the control solution is reliable and fit for purpose to meet the metallurgical and safety requirements of the operation. The role requires a high level of technical competency in instrumentation, networks and control systems and will require that the Senior Engineer C&I maintains their knowledge of control system developments.
Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Safety
- Oversee consistent application of Safety & Health principles in all discipline interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
Performance and Delivery
- Maintain the control solution including the instrumentation, control networks, hardware, and software.
- Identify improvement opportunities for the control solution.
- Identify and register appropriate SIB (Stay in Business) project to improve the solution and ensure it remains fit for purpose.
- Ensure compliance for all SIB projects to site standards, network topology, OEM requirements, System integration, updating of Comos and feasibility studies. Manage the Control and Instrumentation team to ensure an effective control solution.
- Ensure compliance towards radio active sources, manage team including RPO and ARPO
- Manage key health check reports; Standby pump, Alarm status, Callout log, Bypass report, Override report, instrument health.
- Maintain Calibration of Metal accounting scales and equipment
- Manage radio channels and equipment on site.
- Update and maintain BMR E&I standards and procedures.
- Manage the C&I budget for the operation to ensure that the control solution remains fit for purpose.
- Manage software programming internally and break dependency on external consultants
- Manage the Upkeep of P&ID’s through COMOS system

Compliance
- Ensure compliance of the discipline with internal and external (legislative, regulatory, permitting) requirements
This role is at a GBF 6 level reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager
Qualifications
- Minimum National Diploma Electrical, Electronic or Instrument Engineering (NQF Level 6)
- BSc/BEng in Electrical, Electronic, Computer or Instrument Engineering is desirable
Certificate
- Registered as a Profession Engineer with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa) or registered as a Professional Engineering Technologist with ECSA
- GCC Factories and works is desirable
- Valid driver’s license
Experience
- 10 years' work experience in control and instrumentation
- 5 years relevant management experience
- 5 years’ experience with fieldbus technologies (e.g. Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, …)
Technical Knowledge
- SiemensPCS7 upgrade from ET200 to ET200SpHa
- Project experience
- Ethernet networking upgrade to JBPN network
- Profinet and Scalance
- Fluent English literacy
- Knowledge of applicable laws, standards and specifications.
