Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.
Job Description
We are currently seeking an experienced, highly skilled and motivated Technical Services Coordinator to join the Technical Services team at Dawson Mine on a permanent basis.
Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, you will drive performance through scheduling, dig, dump and infrastructure designs, reserving, stakeholder engagement, and problem solving interactions to successful outcomes. You will also work alongside and mentor a team of mining engineers to deliver best practice mining engineering services and support to Dawson Operations. You will drive key planning processes such as an integrated short-term schedule, compliance to plan, weekly coaling forecasts, performance tracking and Anglo-American Operational Management systems.
This role is focused on actively engaging with the production team at all levels to gather input, communicate mine schedules and designs, and to ensure that the production processes are optimised in order to continuously increase operational efficiency. In addition, you will utilise your experience to integrate short term plans and schedule into medium term mine plans and communicate these outcomes to critical stakeholders. You will utilise your experience of open cut mining operations as well as your knowledge of core geotechnical principles and planning parameters to deliver safe and efficient mine plans.
Qualifications
To be successful you will have the following:
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field. A master's degree would be an advantage.
- Proven experience in scheduling and open-pit mining experience (preferably coal) across at least 2 planning disciplines
- Excellent organisational and project management abilities to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Knowledge of relevant mining regulations, geotechnical practices, environmental practices, and safety protocols.
- Exposure to Deswik, Spry, high precision monitoring systems, and haulage modelling will be highly regarded.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present complex information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Adaptability and flexibility to work in a fast-paced and changing mining environment.
- Adherence to safety regulations and a commitment to creating a safe working environment for all team members.
