Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.  In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in Northwest Queensland and Western Australia.

Job Description

We are seeking a Maintenance Planning Coordinator to join our team at Capcoal Surface Operations in Middlemount, Queensland.  Capcoal is an open cut coal operation producing approximately 5.1 Mtpa, utilising a fleet that includes a rope shovel, five excavators, two draglines and three drills.

As the Maintenance Planning Coordinator, you will report to the Maintenance Superintendent and will manage a team of 5 Maintenance Planners responsible for developing and executing the short-term maintenance plans and schedules for our mobile and field fleet, in addition to light vehicles and ancillary equipment. 

Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you will be responsible for the development of long-term maintenance plans and budgets covering timeframes of up to 18 months.  You’ll help shape equipment strategies, contribute to capital planning, manage key technical information and ensure forecasts are consistent and up to date. 

Qualifications

To be successful in this position you will ideally have experience in the following:

  • You will possess a mechanical trade qualification or engineering degree
  • Demonstrated experience working in a leadership / supervisor capacity within a maintenance team at a large, open cut mining operation
  • Previous maintenance planning experience for field and / or mobile equipment and a well-developed understanding of maintenance strategies
  • Ability to focus on long-term solutions, ongoing innovation, maintenance costs, workplace efficiencies
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Programs, SAP, Obzervr, Link One and OEM parts systems are highly desirable
  • Industry experience in maintenance budgeting, asset management systems and familiarity with mining equipment lifecycle strategies
  • Knowledge of the QLD Coal Mining Legislation and Coal Mining practices
