Debmarine Namibia requires the services of a Senior Research and Development Engineer. The successful incumbent will be responsible for Research and Development to ensure development, continuous improvement and optimization of marine sub-systems according to operational or activity requirements, organizational objectives and sound engineering related practices.

Job Description

THE SENIOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER AT DEBMARINE NAMIBIA:

 

  • Develops and maintains a relevant Research and Development (R&D) project portfolio in line with business needs and financial resources and constraints.
  • Manages a team of R&D engineers in support of delivering the R&D portfolio.
  • Identifies business needs and opportunities by:
    • Engaging key stakeholders to determine business needs.
    • Identifying techniques and technologies that are appropriate for the business.
    • Identifying high level business problems and opportunities to determine inefficiencies, gaps and overlaps in business processes.
  • Interprets strategy, requirements and opportunities and formulate appropriate R&D activity response in cooperation with clients and management.
  • Manages and coordinates R&D project activity per assignment area or interpreted strategy.
  • Analyses and improves the effectiveness and efficiency of existing mining and sampling systems as directed.
  • Conceptualizes, evaluates and develops new mining and sampling systems as directed.
  • Supports the operational readiness of new systems to ensure smooth integration, functionality, performance alignment with organisational objectives and end-user requirements.
  • Evaluates current mining, process and sampling sub systems and generative innovative concepts that will aid in improvement of current systems.
  • Designs test programs, execute and oversee such test programs and analysis data for improvement of mining, sampling and treatment system performance.
  • Provides technical consulting services within the department and to other departments and operations in line with individual and departmental specialties.
  • Provides appropriate guidance and advise in area of specialization which leads to improvements and resolution of problems.

Qualifications

CANDIDATE MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:

  • Degree in Metallurgical, Mechatronic, Mechanical, Electrical or Mining Engineering, Geology or a related qualification at (NQF7).
  • Eight (8) years’ relevant experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of engineering, Marine Mining, Processing, Geophysical Tool Development and / or experience in the systematic development of products and systems from concept to evaluation.
  • Experience in simulation, CFD, CAD, DEM or geophysical modelling including expert use of MS Excel or other packages for simulation and modelling where appropriate.
