Job Description
De Beers Group has an opportunity for a motivated and energetic individual in an environment with opportunities for learning and growth as an integral contributor to the success of Gahcho Kué Mine. We have an opportunity within the Mobile Maintenance Department at the Gahcho Kué Mine, based in the Northwest Territories for a highly motivated Welder Artisan, Lead Hand. Reporting to the Mobile Maintenance Supervisor, Truck Shop the incumbent will be responsible for the preventative maintenance and major repairs to mobile, auxiliary and stationary mining equipment, while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect the values of De Beers. Key responsibilities:
- Demonstrate effective safety leadership by addressing and enforcing safety standards, procedures, and safety systems Set expectations and accountabilities when dealing with Maintenance Schedules;
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management;
- Provide direction and support to welding technicians, including job assignments, training, and performance feedback.
- Act as backfill for the Execution Supervisor when required, ensuring continuity in operations and decision-making.
- Make informed decisions on repair strategies
- Participate in resource planning and workforce development to ensure adequate skill coverage across shifts
- Lead from the front line and will be heavily involved in practical fabrication and welding on site
This position is on a 14 days in/14 days out rotation.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in Open Pit Mining;
- Minimum of five 2 years related Lead Hand experience;
- Good understanding of established mining methods and operating practices;
- Basic computer skills preferred;
- General knowledge of maintenance functions to support the Maintenance Supervisor;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Proven commitment to Safety, Health and Environmental Standards;
- Experience working at a remote mining site and in a cross-cultural work environment;
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work scopes;
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills;
- Strong knowledge of welding techniques, materials, and equipment; and
- Familiarity with Komatsu welding and fabrication procedures.
