Dawson Mine is a large and dynamic open cut steelmaking coal mine operation made up of two operating pits - Central and South. It commenced operations in 1961 and is one of the oldest coal mining operations in Central Queensland with no signs of slowing down. Dawson Mine is rich in history, it was the first mine in Australia to export coal to Japan in 1961 and was the first mine to introduce draglines into its operation in 1963 – join the legacy today!
Job Description
As the Mining Engineer, you will report to the Technical Services Superintendent and will be responsible for delivering best practice mining engineering services and support operations. Our Mining Engineers are specialists in the development and implementation of short term planning mining strategies and mine plans incorporating Truck and Excavator design.
You will leverage your experience of the coal mining process as well as your knowledge in mine design software to deliver achievable and efficient mine plans. With the support of the planning team, you will actively engage with the production team to communicate mine plans and schedules to ensure that the production processes are optimised to continuously increase the operational efficiency.
Qualifications
We are seeking a tertiary qualified Mining Engineer with at least 2 years post graduate experience gained in an open cut environment.
To be successful in the role, desirable experience and attributes include:
- Short term design, planning and / or scheduling within an open cut operation.
- Truck & Excavator dig, dump and infrastructure design experience.
- Open cut coal experience highly desirable
- Experience with daily, weekly and monthly reporting routines and compliance to plan monitoring.
- Ability to understand functionality of business systems and extract relevant data for business purposes.
- Track record in driving continuous improvement.
- Strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Exposure to DESWIK highly desirable. Proficiency in SPRY, Vulcan, Minescape, MINEX, or similar mining software required.
